Always rich and toasty, Bouchaine’s ’99 drinks bright and ripe. There are white peach and tropical fruit flavors dusted with crushed oriental spices, and the whole is framed in well-charred oak. This is a fat, lush, creamy Chardonnay, polished and satisfying. —S.H.

Bouchaine 2008 Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir (Carneros)

The vineyard is on the Napa side of Carneros. The grapes got quite ripe, to judge from the flavors of black cherries, while 75% new oak adds distinct flavors of sweet, caramelized toast. The wine is pretty tannic, with fine acidity. Give it a few hours in the decanter before pouring.
