Bouchard Pere & Fils Wines

Bouchard Pére & Fils dates back to 1731 when Michel Bouchard set up shop in Volnay, buying and reselling barrels of wine. In 1775, his son, Joseph, acquired the first parcel of vineyard for Bouchard Pére & Fils when he purchased an estate in Volnay and a house in Beaune. Today, the domaine encompasses 130 hectares of vineyard in the heart of the Cote d’Or, with 12 grand cru holdings and 74 premier cru holdings. Since 2005, Bouchard Pére & Fils has been equipped with a state-of-the-art winery, The Cuverie Saint-Vincent. The 10-metre-deep cellar has earth walls, providing natural ventilation, temperature and humidity level controls, with no mechanical manipulation necessary. Bouchard Pere & Fils 2007 Chardonnay (Montrachet)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $757
From arguably the finest white wine vineyard in Burgundy, this is a powerful wine that shows great weight, but balances that with intense, elegant structure, style and freshness. The flavors are endless and complex, richness combining with the lively character of the vintage. Age for many years.  — R.V.  (7/1/2010)

Bouchard Pere & Fils 2006 Pinot Noir (Chambertin Clos de Bèze)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $575
Big and bold, this is real Chambertin, a dense mouthful of plum fruit and tannin. It is foursquare, solid but not overbearing, leaving room for a delicious mix of black fruits and power leavened with some acidity. Age this wine for 10 years.  — R.V.  (12/31/2008)

Bouchard Pere & Fils 2004 La Cabotte Chardonnay (Chevalier-Montrachet)

  1. $500
This comes from high up in the Chevalier-Montrachet vineyard, from vines surrounding a small workers shed, the “cabotte.” It is the better of the two bottlings from this vineyard by Bouchard, although “better” here is like differentiating between two stars on top form. It has great poise, so although the richness is there, it is shot through with acidity and citric…  — R.V.  (12/1/2006)

Bouchard Pere & Fils 2007 La Cabotte Chardonnay (Chevalier-Montrachet)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $660
From a parcel within the Chevalier-Montrachet vineyard, this is beautifully balanced, but a wine with considerable potential. It is rich, but thrust through with a sword of steel, giving acidity that offers a succulent counterpoint to the yellow fruits. The wood is becoming well integrated, offering further richness. For long-term aging.  — R.V.  (7/1/2010)

Bouchard Pere & Fils 2006 Pinot Noir (Bonnes-Mares)

  1. $325
A proper Bonnes-Mares, solidly rooted in its great terroir, very ripe but also densely structured. The wine builds up in layers, the flavors of chocolate, licorice and dark plum skins piling on top of each other. The acidity is there, but almost submerged in the richness and the ripe raspberry jam aftertaste.  — R.V.  (12/31/2008)

Bouchard Pere & Fils 2006 Chardonnay (Corton-Charlemagne)

Like so many producers and négociants, Bouchard Père has a slice of the action in this famed Grand Cru. Its interpretation is generous, going for the inherent richness from the terroir. This is a magnificently ripe wine, definitely opulent, with the generous wood enhancing the very ripe fruit. In all this splendor, it is good to find a delicious edge of acidity.  — R.V.  (10/1/2008)

Bouchard Pere & Fils 2000 Pinot Noir (Bonnes-Mares)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $120
A deliciously concentrated and powerful wine from the domaine of négociant Bouchard Père et Fils. Rich chocolate aromas and intense concentrated black fruits give a strong sense of power and richness. The fruit is rich enough to dominate the tannins. This should age magnificently—10 years at least.  — R.V.  (11/1/2002)

Bouchard Pere & Fils 2006 Pinot Noir (Clos Vougeot)

  1. $200
Not all Clos Vougeot lives up to its billing, but this wine certainly does. With its superbly ripe fruit, a harmonious balance between fruit, tannins and acidity, and a full, generous texture, this is a wine to savor. It is a big wine in all senses, except that it has a great sense of proportion. Enjoy this wine in 2–3 years, or age for 10.  — R.V.  (12/31/2008)
