Bouchard Pere & Fils

Bouchard Pére & Fils dates back to 1731 when Michel Bouchard set up shop in Volnay, buying and reselling barrels of wine. In 1775, his son, Joseph, acquired the first parcel of vineyard for Bouchard Pére & Fils when he purchased an estate in Volnay and a house in Beaune. Today, the domaine encompasses 130 hectares of vineyard in the heart of the Cote d’Or, with 12 grand cru holdings and 74 premier cru holdings. Since 2005, Bouchard Pére & Fils has been equipped with a state-of-the-art winery, The Cuverie Saint-Vincent. The 10-metre-deep cellar has earth walls, providing natural ventilation, temperature and humidity level controls, with no mechanical manipulation necessary. Bouchard Pere & Fils 2002 Echezeaux Pinot Noir (Echézeaux)

  1. $115
A powerful wine, filled with rich, solid fruit, high tannins and shot through with dark plums, flavors of toast and a layer of acidity.  — R.V.  (9/1/2004)

Bouchard Pere & Fils 2003 Pinot Noir (Echézeaux)

  1. $165
As befits the grand cru vineyard of Echezeaux, this is a powerful wine. But with the 2003, the generosity and ripeness are equally obvious. The tannins are huge, but they are matched by the huge fruit. Concentrated, black flavors complete an impressive wine. Imported by Clicquot Inc.  — R.V.  (9/1/2005)

Bouchard Pere & Fils 2004 Pinot Noir (Bonnes-Mares)

  1. $235
At the northern limit of Chambolle-Musigny, the wines from Bonnes-Mares often take on the character of the solid, foursquare wines of Morey-Saint-Denis. But, as with this, they also keep some of the sensuousness of Chambolle. There’s lovely, sweet fruit nicely restrained by the acidity and soft, dusty tannins. New wood flavors also add to the mix.  — R.V.  (3/1/2007)

Bouchard Pere & Fils 2005 Clos de la Mousse Premier Cru Pinot Noir (Beaune)

  1. $69
A terroir-driven wine, with its earthy aromas and its foursquare fruit structure. It has power, an engine of fruit, sweet tannins and flavors of cranberries and wild strawberries, all supported by considerable structure. The aftertaste is luscious.  — R.V.  (8/1/2008)

Bouchard Pere & Fils 2007 Pinot Noir (Echézeaux)

  1. $212
Elegance and weight characterize this powerful wine. It has style, moving easily from the perfumed berry fruits to the blacker and dusty tannins, with the concentration of acidity and freshness within the firm texture. For aging.  — R.V.  (7/1/2010)

Bouchard Pere & Fils 2007 Le Corton Pinot Noir (Corton)

  1. $110
Big fruit, big tannins and a delicious raspberry jelly feel are found on this complex wine. The fruit is equal to the dusty tannins, with the acidity—typical of the year—very prominent. The wine has richness though, with a tangible final burst of power.  — R.V.  (7/1/2010)

Bouchard Pere & Fils 2004 Pinot Noir (Clos de Vougeot)

  1. $200
Rich and velvety, this wine is out to seduce. It has delicious sweet strawberry fruits, soft but deceptively powerful tannins and the refreshing acidity and lift of 2004. It will still age—those tannins show that—but it is already enjoyable.  — R.V.  (3/1/2007)

Bouchard Pere & Fils 2007 Pinot Noir (Clos de Vougeot)

  1. $206
Bouchard owns some fine parcels in Clos de Vougeot and this shows in the dense character of the wine, with its minerality and tight structure. It is dark, brooding almost, very dry, but likely to age well over many years.  — R.V.  (7/1/2010)
