Boudreaux Cellars 2005 Merlot (Washington)

  1. $40
Whether by virtue of vintage or bottle variation, Boudreaux wines seem to gyrate a bit wildly when first released. This new 2005 is no exception. At first sniff it explodes into life, the aromas a mix of herb, spice, tar, smoke, earth and fruit. Flavors are threaded together into a seamless, saturated whole—plum, cassis and cherry liqueur up front, earth and tannin…  — P.G.  (12/1/2008)

Boudreaux Cellars 2005 Champoux & Loess Vineyards Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Washington)

  1. $100
Lovely nose, which runs from violets and cherries right into coffee and sweet chocolate. In the mouth the wine coats the palate with Napa-like intensity, only buttressed with more vivid acidity. It’s both smooth and deep. The aromas are more detailed, interesting and really clean, loaded with dark flavors of soy, coffee, molasses and black cherry liqueur.  — P.G.  (9/1/2009)

Boudreaux Cellars 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (Washington)

  1. $50
The assemblage includes seven grapes from ten vineyards and six AVAs. It needs breathing time, perhaps because of the jumble of components, but with plenty of air it sorts itself out into a luscious and tangy berry and cherry-powered wine. The barrels add lush notes of mocha, caramel and baking spice, with just a hint of alcoholic heat.  — P.G.  (12/1/2008)

Boudreaux Cellars 2006 Merlot (Washington)

  1. $40
A big-boned, rich 100% Merlot, this is a dark and chewy wine whose cherry fruit is set amidst an explosion of hickory smoke, dark chocolate, and tar. The tannins—quite astringent and drying—suggest a long cellar life ahead. Drink it now or lay it down for up to a decade.  — P.G.  (2/1/2011)

Boudreaux Cellars 2004 Syrah (Washington)

  1. $40
This is a dark, dense and compelling Syrah, muscular and sleek. The deep boysenberry and blackberry fruit is set off with aromatic highlights—and flavors—of black olive, licorice and caramel. It’s smooth and weighty, with beautiful balance and moderate alcohol. The extra time in bottle has helped to integrate the acids and suggests that this wine has a long life ahead.  — P.G.  (7/1/2008)

Boudreaux Cellars 2004 Champoux Vineyard Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Horse Heaven Hills)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $100
This is an interesting wine, with dense and deep layers of chocolate, licorice and other barrel flavors, buttressed with ripe, clean berry-flavored fruit. The alcohol is in balance, and the aromas carry a mix of wild herb, grass and grain. It’s impossible to know where this wine will travel as it ages, but it certainly will light up any dinner party conversation in…  — P.G.  (7/1/2008)

Boudreaux Cellars 2008 Bishop’s & Celilo Vineyards Chardonnay (Washington)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $35
Winemaker Rob Newsom has defined a Chardonnay style that pushes the grape to its ripening limits. Straw gold and bursting with ultraripe scents and flavors, it’s a jumble of apples, orange marmalade, and lemon candy. A buttery finish brings olive oil, caramel and butterscotch.  — P.G.  (2/1/2011)

Boudreaux Cellars 2007 Bishop’s & Celilo Vineyards Chardonnay (Washington)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $35
Wow—delicious, the best yet. Lots of pineapple from the 75% Celilo fruit, very crisp and lightly butterscotchy. Big but not heavy, with alcohol in the mid-13% range. The wine fills in the midpalate nicely, weaving together rock, metal, butter and tropical fruit flavors in equal proportions. Good length also.  — P.G.  (9/1/2009)
