Bouvet-Ladubay 2006 Saphir Brut Vintage Chenin Blanc-Chardonnay (Saumur)

  1. $18
With its rich fruit, this is an immediately attractive wine. It shows the ripeness of the year in Saumur, bringing together apricot and cantaloupe melon flavors, the acidity a necessary and balancing adjunct to the full-bodied texture. Drink now, or age for 2–3 years.  — R.V.  (12/15/2008)

Bouvet-Ladubay 1998 Saphir Brut Chenin Blanc (Saumur)

  1. $16
Chenin Blanc, which comprises 85% of the blend, delivers lovely hay, grass and clover notes reminiscent of a still wine. But there are plenty of bubbles, and the complex palate orchestrates a delightful mix of fruits and spices with a finishing whisper of honey.  — P.G.  (12/15/2002)

  1. $13
Mostly Chenin, with 10% Chardonnay, this delicious bubbly mixes spicy yeast with clove and herb scents, inviting repeated sips. Full-bodied fruit flavors follow, with a slightly candied appeal, and the finish wraps you in hints of vanilla and light toast.  — P.G.  (12/15/2002)

Bouvet-Ladubay NV Trésor Rosé Cabernet Franc (Saumur)

  1. $20
Made from Cabernet Franc, this is not as good as the Blanc de Blancs version of Trésor (not available in the United States). But it still has a good onion-skin color, a fresh raspberry character, and a good poise and lightness. Imported by Kobrand.  — R.V.  (6/1/2006)

Bouvet-Ladubay 1998 Saphir Brut Vintage Sparkling (Saumur)

  1. $85
Right off the bat you’ll detect that this Loire Valley sparkler is not Chardonnay; it’s Chenin Blanc—you can tell from the yellow color and the unusual nose that’s both meaty and toasty. Interesting across the palate, with notes of papaya, pear and green herbs. Hefty and smoky at the end, with a fat mouthfeel.  — M.S.  (12/15/2003)

Bouvet-Ladubay NV Excellence Brut Rosé Sparkling (Vin Mousseux)

  1. $15
Salmon-colored, with nice scents of strawberry and leafy red berry, this sparkler has big, zesty bubbles and flavors of lime and citrus touched with red berry. Crisp on the finish, with citrusy-apple flavors.  — M.D.  (12/15/2006)
