Brancott 2008 B Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough)

  • Editors' Choice
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $26
One of Brancott's best Sauvignons in recent memory, the 2008 B is intensely herbal on the nose, featuring green tomatoes and bell pepper, but only mildly vegetal on the palate--well within the bounds of acceptable varietal character. It's on the full-bodied side of the spectrum, with a long, mouth-tingling finish. Try with sole Basquaise.  — J.C.  (7/1/2009)

Brancott 2007 Conders Forest Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough)

  1. $22
Part of a new line of single-vineyard wines from New Zealand’s largest winery, this Rapaura-grown Sauvignon Blanc is herbal upfront, verging on peppery, but balances that component with flavors of underripe stone fruit and white grapefruit. It’s full-bodied and creamy without being heavy, finishing long and fresh despite the weight.  — J.C.  (5/1/2008)

Brancott 2005 Reserve Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $19
Has all the typical ingredients of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc: tropical fruit, citrus flavors and herbal notes. What distinguishes this wine is that they’re all in relative balance, with no single element dominating. It’s simultaneously plump in the mouth, yet clean and refreshing on the finish. Imported by Pernod Ricard USA.  — J.C.  (5/1/2007)

Leafy at first, but those greenish notes are backed by plenty of stone fruits and pineapple. It's plump and round in the mouth, with a long, clean, zesty finish. Drink now.  — J.C.  (7/1/2009)

Brancott 2007 B Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough)

  1. $23
Slightly grassy, gooseberry notes bring a hint of herbaceousness to this medium-bodied Sauvignon Blanc, but the core is based around lively melon and grapefruit flavors. Plump in the mouth, yet it finishes crisp and clean; more vibrant than Brancott’s Reserve bottling, making it go down that much easier. Imported by Pernod Ricard, USA.  — J.C.  (12/31/2007)

Brancott 1999 Reserve Chardonnay (Gisborne)

  • Online Exclusive
Complex, with a melange of flavors ranging from apples, peaches, and pears all the way to mangoes. Upfront acidity makes the wine come alive. It seduces the palate with fresh fruitiness and creaminess, and is spectacularly food friendly.  — S.H.  (1/1/2002)

Brancott 2006 Reserve Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $17
Fresh, grassy and citrusy on the nose, this is a wonderfully clean and elegant Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc that should be widely available. Grapefruit and fresh herb flavors are pretty much what we’ve come to expect, perhaps a little less overtly tropical than some and less pungent than some others. Drink now. Imported by Pernod Ricard USA.  — J.C.  (11/1/2007)

Brancott 2009 Brancott B Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $25
Made in a slighly riper, creamier style than Brancott’s other 2009 Sauvignon Blancs, the B displays plenty of fig and melon fruit, tinged with currant and grapefruit. Stylish and balanced, it should prove versatile at the table. Drink it now and over the next year or so.  — J.C.  (9/1/2010)
