Brandborg 2007 Gewürztraminer (Umpqua Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $16
Brandborg really knocks it out of the park with this Gewürztraminer, the strongest in a very solid lineup of white wines. It perfectly captures the oily, floral essence of the grape, in a dense, focused wine loaded with citrus oil, Key lime, and tropical fruits. Great length and balance, as with all the Brandborg white wines.  — P.G.  (4/1/2009)

Brandborg 2008 Gewürztraminer (Umpqua Valley)

  1. $16
Fragrant, fascinating and flat-out delicious, this is one of the top offerings of Gewürztraminer from anywhere in Oregon. Scents of rose petals, citrus oil, pine needle and lime skin pour forth; the flavors are crisply defined, elegant, lingering and in perfect balance. Technically off-dry, this has the acidity and focus to be most flexible with a wide variety of…  — P.G.  (6/1/2010)

Brandborg 2007 Riesling (Umpqua Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $16
Creamy and dry, this outstanding effort boasts a wonderful array of tart green fruits—apples, citrus and berries— but goes the extra mile. A sharp, spicy edge is also evident, tasting like nothing so much as fresh pine needles, and the wine is loaded with creamy acids that set up the palate in much the same way that bone-dry Rieslings from Australia do.  — P.G.  (4/1/2009)

Brandborg 2008 Riesling (Umpqua Valley)

  1. $16
A bracing, tart Riesling, quite dry and still under 13% alcohol, this mixes green apples, fresh citrus, pineapple and unusual suggestions of clove and spice. It’s a fine follow-up to the winery’s excellent 2007 bottling, though perhaps not quite as concentrated.  — P.G.  (6/1/2010)

Brandborg 2009 Gewürztraminer (Umpqua Valley)

Do you like lemon drop cocktails? This is a lemon drop wine —so ripe and round and sweetly lemony it could almost pass for Limoncello. Despite the almost 14% alcohol, there is some sweetness, as you might find in a late harvest wine, albeit concealed by the acidity. Rose petals and talcum powder flavors coalesce into a firm, full, fruity, slightly sweet and also…  — P.G.  (6/1/2011)

Brandborg 2007 Pinot Gris (Umpqua Valley)

  1. $16
In much the same style as Brandborg’s Riesling, this creamy Pinot Gris has a rich, leesy texture, here augmented with streaks of vanilla and toasted almond. The fruit is tangy and refreshing, tasting of ripe lemons and limes, and the balance and full midpalate show a fine winemaker at work.  — P.G.  (4/1/2009)

Brandborg 2009 Pinot Gris (Umpqua Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $16
Ripe and fruity, the 2009 echoes the flavors of the previous vintage, bringing in suggestions of pear, pineapple, green banana and papaya. It’s all wrapped in a bit of alcoholic heat, but not so much as to detract from the rich fruit flavors. A solid base of acid and skin tannins gives the wine the support it needs.  — P.G.  (6/1/2011)

Brandborg 2006 Ferris Wheel Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir (Umpqua Valley)

  1. $38
As with the other Pinots from Brandborg, this estate bottling puts the spices front and center, and matches the intensity of the fruit and barrels appropriately. This is seductive and elegant with a feminine grace. The spicy plum and red currant flavors carry some tasty barrel notes of clove and cinnamon, and the wine has a bit more intensity than its stablemates.  — P.G.  (7/1/2008)
