Brookdale Vineyards 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $45
The winery has made a name for itself with fresh, young Cabs that are rich and balanced and ageable. The ’03 shows tough tannins framing blackberry, cherry, cola and oak flavors, and is thoroughly dry. Should develop well over the next 10 years.  — S.H.  (4/1/2007)

Brookdale Vineyards 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $45
Here’s a big, rich, extracted Cabernet, filled with fruit, yet balanced with a bracing minerality that must come from the earth. It’s completely dry, with flavors of blackberries, black currants, violets and cedar. Very refined and polished, and a good value compared to far more expensive bottlings of this quality.  — S.H.  (12/31/2009)

Brookdale Vineyards 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $52
This is a muscular wine, framed in firm, ripe tannins and blessed with a complex array of coffee, cassis, blackberry, blueberry, licorice and herb flavors. The finish is smoky, rich and long. Should age quite well in the cellar.  — J.M.  (6/1/2004)

Brookdale Vineyards 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $48
Quite spicy in the nose, with hints of pretty cedar, anise and herb flavors up front. Zippy acidity blends well with creamy smooth tannins, all framing a complex web of chocolate, raspberry, cassis, blackberry, licorice and earth flavors. A slight citrus edge gives lift at the end. Long on the finish; a fine first effort from this new winery. -J.M.  — J.M.  (6/1/2003)

Brookdale Vineyards 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $52
With its dark purple color, dramatic aroma of ripe black currants and oak, and appealing mouthfeel, this fine Cabernet expresses very good Napa character. The black currant flavors are framed in rich, sweet, smooth tannins. Probably best now and through 2006.  — S.H.  (12/15/2005)

Brookdale Vineyards 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $45
Very rich and attractive, although the tannins are rather strong, and give the wine a mouth-coating astringency. But the flavors are delicious, of ripe blackberries and black currants, edged with anise, chocolate and cedar. May be too soft to age, so drink up.  — S.H.  (10/1/2010)

Brookdale Vineyards 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $45
Rich, soft and extracted in blackberry jam and chocolate, this Cabernet trades subtlety for sheer deliciousness. And it certainly is easy to drink, with waves of ripe fruit, oak and spice.  — S.H.  (6/1/2012)

Brookdale Vineyards 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $45
This is the least of Brookdale’s Cabs since the 2000 vintage, mainly because it’s overly soft, with a baked, raisiny taste to the blackberries and cherries. Not an ager, so drink now.  — S.H.  (2/1/2008)
