Brookland Valley 2000 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot (Margaret River)
Price
$33
Says Cabernet-Merlot on the label, but Merlot makes up a whopping 5% of the blend. This wine is excellent, but its cool-climate profile isn’t for everyone. This reviewer found a lot to like about the sweet-and-tart black fruit and eucalyptus aromas; cool, red fruit on the palate and lovely, clay-chalk finish. But the wine is taut, and the eucalyptus persistent.

Brookland Valley 2004 Verse 1 Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc (Margaret River)
Price
$16
This is a lively Sem-Sauv in which the Sauvignon seems to steal the show. Semillon lends a hay-like aroma, but apart from that, zesty lime and grass flavors dominate. Tastes just as it smells, with a dry feel. Very nice. Imported by Pacific Wine Partners.

Brookland Valley 2001 Estate Chardonnay (Margaret River)
Price
$27
Panel members had differing opinions about this wine. While one taster found it too woody and wrought with caramel and toasted marshmallow flavors, another found it quite elegant, with fresh herb and understated stone fruit flavors. Round in the mouth; try it and break our deadlock.

Brookland Valley 2001 Verse 1 Shiraz (Margaret River)
Price
$18
Hugely concentrated and purple in color, with tight, deep aromas of black plum and match stick. Powerful, with cassis and cherry fruit, while the finish is oaky, delivering vanilla and coffee. The wine’s heavy weight and sharp acidity don’t exactly match, but the overall impression is still positive. —M.S.

Brookland Valley 2002 Verse 1 Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot (Margaret River)
Price
$15
Briary, clay, fresh green aromas. It’s straight down the line on the palate, with black cherry fruit, soft tannins, vanilla accents and a fair amount of flat wood on the palate. Imported by Cellar Door by Pacific Wine Partners.

Brookland Valley 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot (Margaret River)
Price
$27
There is a slight vegetal note, but there’s enough pretty red plum fruit and smoky oak to distract you. Leaf, beef, putty and eucalyptus waft from the nose.

Brookland Valley 2002 Chardonnay (Margaret River)
Price
$27
Smells toasty and musky, like roasted meat, even. On the palate, soft yellow fruit gives way to a buttery finish. Good, but straightforward. Imported by Pacific Wine Partners.

Brookland Valley 2002 Verse 1 Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot (Margaret River)
Price
$15
Has earthy, brambly aromas, which follow through to give purple and red berries some luster. Has woody tannins, but also a narrow, hollow feel on the palate. A blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot. Imported by Pacific Wine Partners.
