Bucci 1994 Villa Bucci Riserva Verdicchio (Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico)

  1. $22
Aged two years in oak, this is a Verdicchio that will make you re-examine your perception of this grape. Intense nose of complex, layered apricot compote and spice. Rich and full. An ’88 (no longer available) was even more complex on the nose but just beginning to dry out a bit on the palate.  — W.E.  (11/1/1999)

Bucci 2004 Verdicchio (Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore)

  1. $21
After a couple of tough vintages, this Verdicchio is back in form in 2004. Apple, melon, almond and vanilla work the nose, followed by a balanced but acidic palate pushing cider and orange peel. Finishes a touch pithy, with cleansing sharpness.  — M.S.  (10/1/2006)

Bucci 2000 Villa Bucci Riserva Verdicchio (Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico)

  1. $35
While it seems a bit mute and distant at first, time opens it, allowing clean, refined citrus and vanilla flavors to pour forth. This is a reserved riserva, a wine that charms but doesn’t overwhelm. It’s focused and dishes light but refreshing lemon-lime and mineral.  — M.S.  (8/1/2004)

Bucci 2002 Verdicchio (Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore)

  1. $19
Young and simple, with basic mineral and citrus notes. The taste profile is tangy, with good but pedestrian pineapple and orange flavors. The finish is long and solid, but again, pedestrian.  — M.S.  (8/1/2004)

Bucci 2005 Tenuta Pongelli Red (Rosso Piceno)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $21
Here’s a 50-50 Montepulciano and Sangiovese blend that genuinely reflects the territory it comes from: Aromas of wet earth, blackberry, leather, spice and red beets are woven tightly together. Well-built and firm, the wine shows good persistency on the finish and can stand up to stewed meats or aged cheeses.  — M.L.  (12/1/2007)
