Bunnell Family Cellar 2005 Boushey-McPherson Vineyard Syrah (Yakima Valley)

  1. $38
This is Washington Cote Rôtie; smoky, meaty and dense. It is very tart, with cranberry fruit packed with dense layers of dried herbs and smoked meats. Extremely young, sharp, edgy and herbal, it needs a lot more time. But it’s got the kind of organic, lightly funky detail that you see in Cayuse, the kind of detail that promises greatness in the future.  — P.G.  (11/1/2007)

Bunnell Family Cellar 2006 Clifton Hill Vineyard Syrah (Wahluke Slope)

  1. $42
With the Clifton Hill, Ron Bunnell hits a real high note. The scents are lush and loaded with garrigue, smoked meats, nettles and berries. It’s a three ring circus of smells, and it leads right into a classic Washington Syrah that mixes tangy fruit, earthy compost, soy and balsamic, all lifted with citrusy acids. For all that the wine is forward and smooth, the…  — P.G.  (12/31/2008)

Bunnell Family Cellar 2007 Clifton Hill Vineyard Syrah (Wahluke Slope)

Often the best of a stellar Syrah lineup, the 2007 Clifton Hill designate is firm, tight and dense – still showing a youthful shell. Co-fermented with three percent Viognier, the black cherry fruit carries compact layers of graphite, bitter chocolate and dried herb. The concentration and length suggest that this is the most cellarworthy of the Bunnell Family Syrahs.  — P.G.  (5/1/2010)

Complete, aromatic and lively, with a tart, citrusy nose. Layered and precise, this beautifully focused effort sets sparkling acidity against toasty oak. The tart, cool-climate fruit flavors are concentrated and fresh.  — P.G.  (10/1/2006)

Bunnell Family Cellar 2007 Boushey-McPherson Vineyard Syrah (Yakima Valley)

  1. $42
Winemaker Ron Bunnell ages this wine in 100% Hungarian oak, matching the powerful fruit flavors of plum, cassis and black cherry. There are suggestions of cola, and the vineyard’s characteristically savory (umami) flavors of dried kelp and organic matter.  — P.G.  (5/1/2010)

Bunnell Family Cellar 2008 Boushey-McPherson Vineyard Syrah (Yakima Valley)

This potent Syrah is marked with strong scents of organic compost, umami, and roasted meat; it’s packed with plenty of purple and black fruits. Though it tails off slightly in the finish, it seems destined for a good 6–8 year ride in the cellar, improving all the way.  — P.G.  (6/1/2013)

Bunnell Family Cellar 2004 Syrah (Horse Heaven Hills)

  1. $40
Soft and fragrant, smooth and showing a pleasing mix of citrus, berry and plum, this wine has no rough edges. It slides through the palate with the grace of a racehorse, its smooth, ripe tannins leaving a hint of black olive and fresh herb on the finish.  — P.G.  (11/15/2006)

Spicy, sharp and tight, this is packed with compact herbs, spicy fruit, smoke and black tar. Tannins remain sharp-edged and a bit unforgiving for now. Very young, herbal and aggressive, this is a wine that has the structure and power to develop complex, unique flavors in the bottle. Definitely needs more time.  — P.G.  (11/1/2007)
