Burchino 2003 Genius Loci Sangiovese (Toscana)

  1. $26
Dark and tight, with toasted, masculine aromas that hint at barrique aging. The palate is serious and firm as it houses dark berry and plum flavors along with chocolate and smoke. A forward wine that should please most fans of Tuscan Sangiovese.  — M.S.  (9/1/2006)

Burchino 2007 Genius Loci Sangiovese (Toscana)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $23
Genius Loci is an elegant and linear Sangiovese that opens with oaky notes of exotic spice and vanilla followed by cherry, raspberry and pressed blue flower. It’s clean and crisp in the mouth with a long, but not overly dense or rich texture.  — M.L.  (4/1/2011)

Burchino 2006 Sangiovese (Chianti Superiore)

  • Online Exclusive
Tenuta di Burchino offers a traditional Chianti Superiore with streamlined aromas of red cherry and forest berry. There’s a sharp, edgy quality to this wine and the close is accented by a subtle hint of sourness.  — M.L.  (11/1/2009)

Burchino 1997 Sangiovese (Chianti Superiore)

  1. $15
This smooth, balanced offering shows plenty of cherry, leather and cedar flavors. The round mouthfeel and the licorice and toast flavors on the palate are wrapped around ripe, almost candied fruit. Oak is present but there’s enough fruit to support it. A likeable wine to drink now.  — W.E.  (4/1/2001)

Burchino 2005 Sangiovese (Chianti Superiore)

  • Online Exclusive
Traditional, compact and elegant, this Chianti Superiore offers bright luminosity and delicate aromas of red berry and spice. This is not a beefy or intense wine, nor was it meant to be. It would taste best with pasta or pizza.  — M.L.  (5/1/2009)

Burchino 2002 Sangiovese (Chianti Superiore)

  1. $13
It has been years since we reviewed Burchino, and it’s more or less the same wine now that it was in 1997. The nose offers light fruit and cinnamon shadings, which sit in front of strawberry and plum flavors. The finish may be a touch raw and grabby, but as a whole it’s snappy enough to stay the course.  — M.S.  (10/1/2006)

Burchino 1999 Genius Loci Sangiovese (Toscana)

  1. $17
The charred aromas are much like sniffing a match stick. That same piercing woodiness rides high on the palate along with cherries, berries and licorice. The finish is plowed over with buttery oak—you can taste it clear as day. The texture, meanwhile, is firm and not easily penetrable. —M.S.  — M.S.  (12/31/2002)
