C. Beck 2005 Petite Sirah (Napa Valley)

  1. $38
A shade less opulent but finer and more structured than the ’04. The tannins are as fine as in any Napa cult Cab, yet the flavors are exotic, with tiers of black currants, red cherries, licorice, dark chocolate, violets, pepper, leather and Chinese mu shu plum sauce. Drink now with substantial roasts; should age for a decade.  — S.H.  (9/1/2008)

C. Beck 2006 Barlow Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $48
Fancy and easy to drink now for its soft tannins and elegant mouthfeel. Flavors of blackberries, black currants, black cherries, dark chocolate, herbs and sweet tobacco flood the mouth, and are complex and flattering. But the tannins are such that time in the cellar is recommended. Now–2012.  — S.H.  (12/1/2009)

C. Beck 2008 Petite Sirah (Napa Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $38
The grapes are from old vines in Calistoga, and the wine shows the ripe, rich, full-bodied personality of that warm area. It’s dry and tannic, yet opulent in sweet oak, raspberry, blackberry, plum and chocolate fruit, with a long, spicy finish. Very nice now, and should develop over many years.  — S.H.  (9/1/2011)

C. Beck 2007 Petite Sirah (Napa Valley)

A very good, even noble Petite Sirah whose classic structure expresses the variety’s personality in an elegant way. Tannic and dry, it’s a big, fruity wine, with notes of blackberries, coffee, dark chocolate and tar. Now–2013.  — S.H.  (10/1/2010)

C. Beck 2006 Petite Sirah (Napa Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $38
Shows the full-bodied balance and texture of a fine Napa Cabernet, with rich, ripe tannins, although the flavors are all Petite Sirah. Wild forest black, blue and red berries, anise, pepper, leather, bacon and dark chocolate flood the mouth. Delicious now, and should evolve through 2014, with proper cellaring.  — S.H.  (11/1/2009)

C. Beck 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $48
Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged in 50% new French oak barrels, this is a flamboyant wine. It’s enormous in blackberries, cola, sweet licorice and cedar flavors, and the tannins are very refined. Forward and jammy, it’s a flashy wine to drink over the next several years.  — S.H.  (9/1/2011)

C. Beck 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $48
Inky dark and tannic now, this 100% Cabernet, aged in 50% new French oak barrels, seems aimed for the cellar. It’s tough as nails now, but has an enormous heart of cassis. Give this low-production wine a good 4–6 years of aging.  — S.H.  (12/15/2008)

C. Beck 2004 Petite Sirah (Napa Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $35
From a Calistoga vineyard, this is a wine Pet fans will celebrate. Inky black and concentrated, it’s lush in pastry-filling blackberry, cherry, plum, chocolate and coffee flavors, and with twenty months in French oak, there’s tons of vanilla, caramel char and sweet oak tannins.  — S.H.  (10/1/2007)
