Ca' del Vispo 2003 Sangiovese (Chianti Colli Senesi)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $16
Lots of oak, but with tons of fruit and excellent balance the total package is extremely likable. There’s smoke, rubber and bacon on the bouquet, and then comes a deep offering of black plum, berry and vanilla. With second and third layers of depth and complexity, this is a wine that exudes quality.  — W.E.  (4/1/2005)

Ca' del Vispo 2007 Vernaccia (Vernaccia di San Gimignano)

  1. $16
Here are exemplary Vernaccia aromas of green apple, pear, stone fruit and a light sprinkling of peppermint. The wine’s bouquet is intense and pristine and the feel in the mouth is compact, easy but refreshing.  — M.L.  (9/1/2008)

Seafood platters loaded with steamed mussels and spicy crab cakes call out for a fresh, vibrant Vernaccia just like this bottling. Massimo Daldin offers touches of vanilla cream, yellow fruits and nuts, which give it momentum and character.  — M.L.  (4/1/2013)

Ca' del Vispo 2002 Sangiovese (Chianti Colli Senesi)

  1. $12
Lightweight, with innocuous aromas of pie cherry, tobacco and earth. Mostly dried fruits on the palate, including cherry and red plum. Tangy and thin on the finish, but with a puncher’s chance.  — W.E.  (4/1/2005)

Ca' del Vispo 2001 Sangiovese (Chianti Colli Senesi)

A bit weedy, with lean cherry fruit and borderline medicinal flavors. Finishes rubbery, with moderate fruit flavors and some artificiality. Not a prime-timer.  — M.S.  (10/1/2004)
