  • Online Exclusive
  1. $50
Windthrow is a southern Rhône-style blend of 36% Syrah, 29% Mourvèdre, 18% Counoise and 17% Grenache. Ripe and nicely focused, it wraps sleek raspberry fruit in delicate layers of oak, mineral and acid. Tannins are smooth and subtle; the finish is like a fine pastry lingering in the back of the mouth.  — P.G.  (11/1/2011)

Cadaretta 2007 Springboard Red (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $50
A limited-production Bordeaux-style reserve, this high-acid red has an unusually generous proportion (25%) of Petit Verdot; the rest is an equal split between Cabernet and Merlot. Still youthful and tight, it shows excellent structure and depth, with black fruits, earth, licorice and savory herbs.  — P.G.  (12/15/2011)

Cadaretta 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $40
Cadaretta’s largest production red is drinking beautifully in this exceptional vintage. It seems to be moving into midlife softness, with a well-integrated blend of plums, cassis and black cherries, highlighted with clove and coffee. Complex and detailed, its tannins are grainy and dark, adding heft and gravitas to the fruit.  — P.G.  (12/1/2010)

Cadaretta 2008 Syrah (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $35
The best Syrah so far from Cadaretta, this pure varietal is three-quarters Pepper Bridge and one-quarter Stone Tree Vineyard fruit. The purity and focus are compelling. Deep boysenberry fruit is highlighted with black olive and dusty coffee. Tight and expressive.  — P.G.  (12/15/2011)

Cadaretta 2006 Springboard Red (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $50
A limited-production Bordeaux blend, this is a vineyard/barrel selection by now-departed Cadaretta winemaker Virginie Bourgue. It’s silky and deep, with penetrating black fruits and toasted, roasted coffee barrel flavors. Seductive and smooth, this is an elegant wine that warrants cellaring.  — P.G.  (12/1/2010)

  1. $50
Cadaretta’s Windthrow is a limited-release southern Rhône blend of 37% Syrah, 27% Mourvèdre, 18% Counoise and 18% Grenache. The fruit is just ripe enough, clean and juicy, with a spicy and tart mouthfeel. What’s most surprising is the length—the wine seems to gather itself and push on through a full-throttle finish, adding nougat and vanilla custard to the mix.  — P.G.  (12/1/2010)

Cadaretta 2006 Syrah (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $35
Cadaretta, with serious money and an established winemaker (Virginie Bourgue) at the helm, is going to be a player in Walla Walla. The first release is this excellent Syrah, sourced from Pepper Bridge, Stonetree and Alder Ridge. The immediate impression is that the nose has got a lot of floral attributes, followed with hints of spice. The fruit is dark and the…  — P.G.  (11/1/2008)
