Caligiore 2005 Reserve Organic Malbec (Mendoza)

  1. $15
Here’s a nice wine that pushes the right buttons while not raising any red flags. Raspberry and vanilla flavors are solid and pleasing, while the medium-weight palate features depth and balance. This is not the richest, most overpowering Malbec you’ll find, but it comes from 75-year-old vines and its virtues far outdistance its faults.  — M.S.  (8/1/2007)

Caligiore 2009 Staccato Organic Malbec-Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendoza)

  • Best Buy
  1. $10
Dusty cherry and raspberry aromas give this wine a clean, inviting opening. The palate is a touch clacky due to choppy tannins, but the flavors of red cherry, plum and red licorice, while narrow in scope, are perfectly nice and tasty. Sort of generic but a good blend of 60% Malbec and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon.  — M.S.  (5/1/2011)

Caligiore 2011 Grazioso Made with Organically Grown Grapes Torrontés (Mendoza)

  • Best Buy
  1. $10
Mild and powdery smelling, with inviting tropical undertones. The palate mixes flesh with freshness, and the flavors of lychee, green melon and white pepper are straight from the textbook. Finishes mildly bitter, which is natural for Mendoza Torrontés.  — M.S.  (5/1/2012)

Caligiore 2010 Reserve Bonarda (Mendoza)

  1. $15
A medicinal quality comes at you right away, followed by chocolate-coated cherry, creamy oak and a distant note of paint or chemical. Feels round and voluminous, with minty, rubbery flavors of oaky, berry and chocolate. Finishes dry and oaky, with a buttery aftertaste.  — M.S.  (5/1/2012)

Caligiore 2007 Reserve Bonarda (Mendoza)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $15
Smells sweet and gummy, like a plum-flavored sucking candy or a piece of grape bubblegum. The palate is a bit punishing and hard, while wild blackberry, acidity and finishing oak make up the flavors. Lively but untamed.  — M.S.  (2/1/2010)

Caligiore 2007 Reserve Malbec (Mendoza)

  1. $15
Purple, smoky and dense but beyond that it’s regular. The palate is racy and medium deep, but the flavors are more superficial than interesting. Finishes quick, with coffee and bitter chocolate flavors.  — M.S.  (8/1/2008)

Caligiore 2008 Pianissimo Rosé Malbec (Mendoza)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $10
Light strawberry and raspberry aromas offer proof of life and freshness. The palate is solid and lively, with mild citrus and light red fruit for flavor. Shows a bit of sugary cloy, but it’s not bad for Argentine rosé.  — M.S.  (11/1/2009)

Caligiore 2008 Grazioso Torrontés (Mendoza)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $10
Peachy aromas are friendly, while the palate has a good feel to it along with green flavors of melon, lime and fresh veggies. Finishes with fruit, dryness and a touch of bitterness, yet in the end it fails to deliver on the promise of the bouquet.  — M.S.  (12/1/2009)
