Cambria 2004 Clone 23 Pinot Noir (Santa Maria Valley)

  • Editors' Choice

  1. $48
What a wonderful Pinot Noir. I tasted this with a range of other good coastal Pinots and it stood out for the depth and complexity. You’ll find the silkiness, acidity and ripe cherries and blackberries in many other Pinots, but also a richly earthy, grilled Portobello, miso and tannin quality. There’s a ton of new oak, but it’s totally appropriate.  — S.H.  (2/1/2007)

Cambria 2006 Julia's Vineyard Pinot Noir (Santa Maria Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $21
This is the best Pinot Noir at this price on the market. Easily. It’s picture-perfect cool climate, absolutely dry and silky, with complex flavors of cherries, Mandarin orange, cola, pomegranates, licorice and cinnamon spice, made even richer by smoky oak. Just lovely, and gets even better as it breathes in the glass.  — S.H.  (2/1/2009)

Cambria 2007 Clone 667 Pinot Noir (Santa Maria Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $48
A very big, rich and full-bodied Pinot that may strike some as too voluminous, but it sure is delicious. Shows intricate flavors of cherry tart, red currants, Dr. Pepper cola, anise, black pepper, sandalwood and smoke, wrapped into a silky texture. Drink now through 2013.  — S.H.  (3/1/2010)

Cambria 2007 Clone 95 Chardonnay (Santa Maria Valley)

  1. $27
Great price for a Chardonnay this rich and attactive.Although the alcohol is relatively high, the wine feels balanced, with a proper tension between ripe fruit, oak, alcohol, lees and acidity. Offers savory flavors of lemondrop candy, pineapple tart and buttered toast.  — S.H.  (7/1/2010)

Cambria 2000 Experimental Clone 115 Pinot Noir (Santa Maria Valley)

  1. $50
Our favorite of the experimental clones. The smoked bacon and underbrush aromas turn to a big mouthful of juicy black cherries and licorice, accented with a dusting of earth. It’s a big, lush Pinot that finishes with chocolate-covered cherries.  — W.E.  (10/1/2002)

Cambria 2009 Julia's Vineyard Pinot Noir (Santa Maria Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $25
Another lovely Julia’s Pinot from Cambria, at a fair price. With its light tannins and transparency, it’s definitely Pinot Noir, and the acidity testifies to a cool climate. You might even pick out the Santa Maria Valley from the crushed Indian spices. Subtle but intriguing cherry, cola and plum flavors round out the picture. Drink now–2015.  — S.H.  (2/1/2012)

Cambria 2006 Bench Break Vineyard Pinot Noir (Santa Maria Valley)

  1. $30
Bring on the grilled salmon, ahi tuna, pork chops and smoked country ham. This gorgeous Pinot will let them shine in a supportive way, not overwhelm them. Dry, crisp and elegantly silky, it shows complex flavors of cherries, cola, rhubarb, licorice and beef jerky that finish in a swirl of dusty spice. Best now and through 2010.  — S.H.  (2/1/2009)

Cambria 2006 Bench Break Vineyard Chardonnay (Santa Maria Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $25
Delivers lots of bang for the buck. Built like a fine French Burgundy, it’s rich and intricate in smoky-oak infused tropical fruit, fig and Asian spice flavors that have an undercurrent of stony minerals. Really impressive for this price.  — S.H.  (2/1/2009)
