  • Cellar Selection
  1. $97
Top 100 Cellar Selections 2011 Score Chasers: NZ & AU 2011
Dark amber in color and going greenish at the rim, the basis of this wine is clearly old stocks going back well over 60 years. It’s full-bodied, unctuous and superrich, oozing with molasses and rancio character, but balanced by citrusy notes. The finish is incredibly sweet and long, coating the mouth with coffee-like essences that linger for minutes.  — J.C.  (2/1/2011)

Campbells NV Isabella Rare Tokay (Rutherglen)

Campbells utilizes a modified solera system, so small portions of this blend are 60 or more years of age, imparting an incredibly elegant note of rancio. A deep mahogany in color, the Merchant Prince Rare Muscat boasts dense date, fudge and molasses components balanced by rancio, citrusy accents and even some floral notes. Despite being incredibly sweet and sticky, there’s a freshness to it that keeps it from being overwhelming.  — J.C.  (2/1/2011)

Campbells NV Merchant Prince Rare Muscat (Rutherglen)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $85
This wine has the rich hue of dark coffee in the glass, greening a bit at the rim. Aromas and flavors of Guinness stout, raisin and coffee fully saturate the senses, picking up hints of spicecake on the enormously long finish. Incredibly sweet, yet it’s still drinkable.  — J.C.  (12/15/2007)

This wine is so intensely textured and flavored, you’ve got to brace yourself. Packed with ultra sweet honey, peach, dried apricot, toast, walnut, coffee, caramel, licorice and sesame notes, it holds onto the palate with bright acidity and length. Massive.  — J.M.  (12/1/2002)

Delicately floral on the nose, this sweet but wonderfully balanced Muscat offers a fine introduction to the Rutherglen Muscat style. Pineapple, raisin and spice flavors persist a good long time, trailing elegantly away on the finish.  — J.C.  (12/15/2007)

Campbells NV Tokay (Rutherglen)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $19
One of the most drinkable Tokays is this entry-level offering from Campbells. It’s only light amber in color, suggesting its youth, while the fruit comes through as citrus and apricot laced with clove and caramel. It’s sweet but not overbearing.  — J.C.  (2/1/2011)

Fresh and vibrant, with perfumed, orange-like aromas, this is an excellent introduction to the Rutherglen Muscat style. It’s not as full bodied or rich as some versions, but instead shows off the youthful components of the blend, ending with pronounced citrus notes.  — J.C.  (2/1/2011)
