Caparzo 2004 Riserva Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $97
Soft, supple and persistent, this gorgeous Riserva Brunello offers intensity and genuine territorial characteristics. Aromas include cherry cola, spice and loads of balsam notes such as eucalyptus and menthol. It’s tight and determined in the mouth and this impression is reinforced by fresh acidity and silky tannins.  — M.L.  (10/1/2010)

Caparzo 1994 La Casa Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $76
A single-vineyard Brunello that is pure dynamite this wine accomplishes two things: It shows that 1994 was not nearly as bad a vintage in Tuscany as some would have us believe, and it reinforces Caparzo’s deserved reputation as master winemakers. With bold fruit and grabbing tannins, this is a beauty with highly extracted fruit and a luscious licorice aroma and flavor.  — M.S.  (11/15/1999)

Caparzo 1999 La Vigna Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $66
Floral and round, and eminently approachable at this early stage. The bouquet is rosy and sweet, while the palate is easygoing and fresh. Yet once you think its aging potential might be short, the finish drives on for a long distance, tossing up coffee and earth notes. Drinkable now, but can last for at least a decade.  — M.S.  (6/1/2004)

Caparzo 2006 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $50
This Brunello shows very nice balance with sweet aromas of cherry, bright fruit, almond paste and Christmas spice. The wine plays the elegance card well with a mouthfeel that is tight and buoyant without being chewy or heavy.  — M.L.  (4/1/2011)

Caparzo 2004 Moscadello (Moscadello di Montalcino)

There’s good complexity here with dried fruit and honey backed by a uniquely herbal—almost medicinal—quality that sets this wine apart. It is smooth and silky in texture with good freshness that drives a long finish.  — M.L.  (12/15/2008)

Caparzo 2000 La Casa Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $75
Shows lovely, complex aromas of plum and cedar, accented with hints of brown sugar, chocolate and spice. It’s medium in weight, developing flavors of fresh herbs and cherry on the palate before ending with lingering notes of cherry and soft, gentle tannins. Made in the Sant’Antimo area of Tuscany, this 50-50 blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet offers intense layers of cherry, spice and chocolate fudge. There are subtle tones of leather and tobacco in the background and the wine is chewy and soft in the mouth.  — M.L.  (11/1/2009)
