Capezzana 1995 Ghiaie della Furba Sangiovese (Toscana)

  1. $53
Simply a splendid Super Tuscan that offers absolutely everything, and more. At 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 30% each of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, you could say Bordeaux has come to Tuscany with fine credentials. Rustic and full, with layers of clear, chewy fruit. Call it a 1% wine, meaning it is better than 99% of everything else.  — M.S.  (11/15/1999)

Capezzana 2003 Contini Bonacossi White (Vin Santo di Carmignano)

  1. $40
Capezzana has crafted a very beautiful and intense Vin Santo that would pair with slivers of aged Tome Chèvre or another piquant cheese. The wine boasts a deep amber color and and sweet layers of maple syrup, honey, candied fruit and chestnut.  — M.L.  (12/31/2010)

Capezzana 2005 Ghiaie della Furba Red (Toscana)

  1. $50
The historic Capezzana estate produces excellent wines in a little-known wine region northwest of Florence. This hearty blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah shows the best of Tuscan winemaking thanks to the purity of the fruit and the warm background etching of smoke and spice that complete a very pretty picture.  — M.L.  (12/15/2010)

Capezzana 2002 Riserva White (Vin Santo di Carmignano)

There’s a nutty, caramelized quality to this beautifully amber Vin Santo that describes its intense and deeply seductive nose. Layered behind those aromas, you’ll encounter honey, roasted chestnut and forest floor. The wine is soft, luscious and very voluptuous and its caramel flavors last long on the palate.  — M.L.  (12/15/2008)

Capezzana 1999 Sangiovese (Carmignano)

  1. $21
In 1998 Capezzana eliminated its “reserve” wine, thereby bumping up the quality of its DOC Carmignano by leaps and bounds. And the ’99 is something to behold. Rich, extracted and jammy it is, with nuances throughout of crème de cassis, coffee, maple and most of all, chocolate. With a finish that coats every corner of your mouth, this Sangiovese (with 20% Cabernet)…  — M.S.  (8/1/2002)

Capezzana 1995 Riserva Sangiovese (Carmignano)

  1. $41
Robust and very full in the mouth. Very deep fruit that veers toward black cherries is matched by superb drying tannins. The finish is smooth as silk with notes of sweet oak and toast. Very pretty and a fine mouthfeel.  — M.S.  (11/15/1999)
