Carica 2008 Kick Ranch Petite Sirah (Sonoma County)

  1. $36
This vigorous young wine delivers all the Petite Sirah personality you could ask for. It’s dark, dry and tannic, and huge in pepper-inspired flavors of blackberries, roasted coffee, cassis and an exquisitely sweet, spicy taste of gingersnap cookie. Should age effortlessly for a decade.  — S.H.  (4/1/2011)

Carica 2008 Kick Ranch The Siren G-S-M (Sonoma County)

  1. $32
A beautiful southern Rhône-style wine, based on Syrah but with additions of Mourvèdre and Grenache. It’s dry, fulled-bodied and tannic, with meaty, leathery flavors of blackberries and cassis. Feels very rich and dense, and should develop for the next 4–5 years.  — S.H.  (4/1/2011)

This lovely, single-vineyard Sauvignon Blanc showcases bright, ripe fruit with crisp acidity, and manages to finish dry. It’s creamy textured, packed with lemon, lime and pink grapefruit flavors, and richer notes of melons, figs, wild honey, vanilla and smoke.  — S.H.  (10/1/2008)

Carica 2007 Kick Ranch Syrah (Sonoma County)

  1. $30
The winery has a good track record with Sauvignon Blancs from this vineyard. Now, they’ve produced a very good Syrah. It’s a big, thick, Aussie Shiraz-style wine, with firm tannins housing flavors of blackberries, currants, mocha, sweet oak and black pepper. Dramatic and delicious.  — S.H.  (12/31/2009)

Dry and crisply acidic, with the gooseberry flavors from 40% Musque clone, this wine was grown northeast of Santa Rosa, which would put it near Chalk Hill. Mainly stainless steel fermented, with a touch of new French oak, it shows elegance and finesse.  — S.H.  (7/1/2007)

If you’re sensitive to high alcohol, this wine isn’t for you. If you’re not, it has plenty to offer in the way of flavor, including raspberries, chocolate and pepper. Turns a bit overripe in the finish, but not too much.  — S.H.  (5/1/2012)

Huge flavors in this creamy wine, exploding in pineapples, limes, kiwi fruit and peaches, with a tangy edge of gooseberry. It’s dry and acidic and clean. Tastes a little honey sweet, but the tartness balances.  — S.H.  (4/1/2011)
