Carl Graff 2003 Erdener Pralat Auslese Riesling (Mosel-Saar-Ruwer)

  1. $25
Light in body but intense in flavor, with delicately floral aromas but bold pineapple, brown sugar and cinnamon flavors. Ermst Loosen is now consulting for this label, and the positive results show. Imported by Valckenberg International, Inc.  — J.C.  (5/1/2005)

  1. $14
A light, racy auslese that coasts on taut, citrusy flavors, finishing long and juicy. It’s lighter than most auslesen, but very focused and pretty. A pleasant surprise from this producer, and at a great price. Best Buy. —J.C.  — J.C.  (3/1/2003)

Carl Graff 2001 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese Riesling (Mosel-Saar-Ruwer)

  1. $12
Verges on being overly light, but in the end it delivers enough finely wrought flavor to be worthy of recommendation. Combines sweet sugary notes with leafy greens and floral elements, underlined by modest lime accents. Best Buy. —J.C.  — J.C.  (3/1/2003)

Carl Graff 2001 Piesporter Michelsberg Auslese Riesling (Mosel-Saar-Ruwer)

  1. $14
Fairly soft and sweet, featuring Golden Delicious apples and cinnamon. Could use more cut and focus, but it’s still an enjoyable drink for those who like them sweet. —J.C.  — J.C.  (3/1/2003)

Carl Graff 2003 Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese Riesling (Mosel-Saar-Ruwer)

  1. $15
Abundant apple and peach aromas presage the rush of fleshy fruit that cascades across the palate. There’s a hint of unreleased CO2 to help enliven the relatively low-acid mouthfeel, and a bit of lime on the finish to help balance things out further. Carl Graff 2001 Piesporter Goldtropfchen Spätlese Riesling (Mosel-Saar-Ruwer)

  1. $15
Like many of the Graff wines, this one is on the light side, but does feature some pretty aromas of talcum powder, chalk dust and fresh limes. Citrusy flavors turn to grapefruit on the mildly peppery finish. —J.C.  — J.C.  (3/1/2003)

Carl Graff 2001 Erdener Treppchen Spätlese Riesling (Mosel-Saar-Ruwer)

  1. $11
Once past some sulfur on the nose, this wine opens up to show some delicate lime and green apple flavors. Finishes a bit short and lacking intensity, but very pretty, even if not terribly concentrated. —J.C.  — J.C.  (3/1/2003)

Carl Graff 2001 Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese Riesling (Mosel-Saar-Ruwer)

  1. $12
If you love the deep, earthy petroleum notes that Riesling can sometimes develop, you’ll like this wine a lot. There’s so much of that here—like the aroma of home heating oil—that it overwhelms the baked Golden Delicious apples that should have been the core of this wine. Still, if you like that style…. —J.C.  — J.C.  (3/1/2003)
