Carmenet 1999 Paragon Vineyard Reserve Sauvignon Blanc (Edna Valley)

  1. $16
Always an interesting wine, this year it showcases floral and melon notes in addition to the usual grassy-citrusy ones. It’s tart enough for dry palates and salty foods but has a round fruitiness and even a little sweetness that make it nice in its own right. Ten percent Semillon adds a nutty, figgy element.  — S.H.  (8/1/2001)

Carmenet 1997 Paragon Vineyard Reserve Sauvignon Blanc (Edna Valley)

  1. $16
An attempt to create a weighty Graves-like style that has gone awry. 30% Semillon in the blend. Heavy, quite heavily oaked and unbalanced. Loses too much varietal character and ends up like an overprocessed Chardonnay.  — M.M.  (9/1/1999)
