Ca'Romè 1998 Vigna Cerretta Nebbiolo (Barolo)

  1. $62
This is a delicious Barolo, with aromas of beets, cherries and a touch of toast. The flavors of soy, rhubarb and leather are well bal anced, with the tannins and acids leading to a satiny finish. Drinkable now, but has the staying power to last for 10-plus years.  — C.S.  (11/15/2002)

Ca'Romè 2000 Vigna Cerretta Nebbiolo (Barolo)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $81
Oh baby. This wine has it all, from alluring scents of toast, black cherries and cola to flavors of exotic spices and a big, plush, tannic framework that promises well for the future. Combines great power with a sense of proportion. Should reach its peak around 2015.  — J.C.  (11/15/2004)

Ca'Romè 2001 Vigna Cerretta Nebbiolo (Barolo)

  1. $78
A modern, creamy-textured Barolo, layered with new wood that needs some time to integrate with the fine underlying material. Tobacco, vanilla and cedar dominate ight now, but with time those scents should subside and make way for cherry and spice nuances. Try in 2010. Imported by Empson (USA) Ltd.  — W.E.  (3/1/2006)

Ca'Romè 2007 Söri Rio Sordo Nebbiolo (Barbaresco)

  1. $87
The 2007 Söri Rio Sordo is far more impressive than the 2006 edition. Warm temperatures and a long growing season have surely played an important part in developing the aromas of black fruit, sweet spice, plum and dried prune that come forward. The wine shows elegance and integration with a firm, unyielding tannic structure.  — M.L.  (12/1/2010)

Ca'Romè 1999 Barbaresco Sori Rio Sordo Nebbiolo (Barbaresco)

  1. $60
Though this wine is overtly woody, the elements are very impressive. It’s enticing and tasty—if unevolved—even now. Lovely black cherry, tar, coffee and sweet spice notes play on the nose and palate. But the wood expands much more than expected, progressively veiling the fine component parts. Closes long with full, solid but even tannins. This needs time and has…  — M.M.  (11/15/2002)

Ca'Romè 2004 Vigna Cerretta Nebbiolo (Barolo)

  1. $112
This cru surrounds the hamlet of Cerretta in Serralunga d’Alba and offers different exposures and soils. The wine exhibits mature aromas of blackberry preserves backed by cured meat, hickory, barbecue sauce, black pepper and road tar. It’s a big and bold expression of Barolo with firm, dusty tannins and a tight but polished mouthfeel.  — M.L.  (4/1/2009)

Ca'Romè 2004 Vigna Rapet Nebbiolo (Barolo)

  1. $112
Barolo Rapet (like the estate’s Vigna Cerretta) also exhibits mature aromas of plum, tar, raisin, leather and fruit preserves. The wine is lush and chewy in the mouth with thick tannins and black flavors of licorice, spice and sour cherry. Pair it with Virginia or Kentucky country ham and drink after 2012.  — M.L.  (4/1/2009)
