Carpineto 2001 Molin Vecchio Red (Toscana)

  1. $70
This is a gorgeous blend of Sangiovese (80%), Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon with luscious levels of black fruit, hickory smoke and cherry cola. What sets the wine apart is the density and the obvious quality of the fruit. It is chewy and slightly sweet with firm, polished tannins on the close.  — M.L.  (11/1/2009)

Carpineto 2004 Riserva Sangiovese (Chianti Classico)

  1. $27
This is a lovely Riserva with thick and penetrating tones of cherry, spice and cola—the holy trinity of traditional Chianti Classico. The wine is dense, concentrated and intense without being too powerful or overwhelming. It would make an excellent companion to veal in a wine reduction sauce because of the natural succulence and structure.  — M.L.  (9/1/2008)

Carpineto 1999 Molin Vecchio Sangiovese (Toscana)

  1. $75
Richly oaked, with smoke and vanilla notes dominating at this young age. But there’s also a firm core of blackberry flavors that grows in intensity and bodes well for cellaring. The mouthfeel is lush and creamy, finishing with chewy tannins. Try this blend of Sangiovese, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon in 2008.  — W.E.  (11/1/2003)

Carpineto 2001 Sillano Red (Toscana)

  1. $70
Here’s a super Tuscan blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon that shows its 10 years of age surprising well. There’s still loads of fruit here backed by tertiary aromas of licorice, polished stone, dried fruit and old leather.  — M.L.  (12/15/2010)

Carpineto 2001 Vigneto Poggio Sant'Enrico Prugnolo Gentile (Vino Nobile di Montepulciano)

  1. $75
This is an evolved and sophisticated Vino Nobile with rich concentration, dense texture and very pretty, wood-driven notes of vanilla and spice that are splashed evenly over black currants, plums and prunes. The wine exhibits harmony and balance, and although it is on the thick or gritty side, it does have the natural tannins to pair with succulent meat.  — M.L.  (6/1/2008)

Round, soft and velvety, this beautiful Riserva Chianti Classico offers a huge bouquet with mature cherry and black fruit aromas. The mouthfeel is tight, streamlined and compact.  — M.L.  (4/1/2011)

Carpineto 1999 Poggio Sant'Enrico Sangiovese (Toscana)

  1. $70
Aromas of superripe cherries burst from the glass, folding in notes of chocolate and pain grillé. The Sangiovese (100%) was clearly harvested very ripe, with an almost Port-like character to it and creamy tannins, but it still retains good acidity.  — W.E.  (11/1/2003)

Carpineto 2000 Sangiovese (Chianti Classico)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $20
Rich, smoky, pure and encouraging from the first take all the way to the back end. There’s lots of zest and spunk to this racy yet round Chianti. The palate is full of blackberry and the feel is supple. It’s totally ripe and tannic, with notes of vanilla, chocolate and espresso forming the base. Oaky but integrated; modern but traditional enough.  — M.S.  (11/15/2003)
