Casa del Valle 2006 Hacienda Shiraz (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla)
Best Buy

Price
$14
Dense and reduced initially, this Syrah from the Toledo area delivers fresh raisin on the nose and then a solid, rugged palate with saturated plum, berry and mild herbal notes. It’s thick, ripe, healthy and balanced, all leading to a fine final product. Drink now.

Casa del Valle 2005 Finca Valdelagua Red (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla)
Online Exclusive
Price
$30
Hard and roasted on the nose, with molasses, leather and other less-than-fruity aromas. It’s narrow and clampy in the mouth, with herbal, distant flavors of peppery red fruits. Shows some roughness and tannic bite on the finish, and also a bit of stemminess. Good but for the price and vintage it has some weaknesses.

Casa del Valle 2006 Hacienda Cabernet Sauvignon (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla)
Online Exclusive
Price
$14
Stretched on the nose, with reedy, wiry, candied red-fruit aromas. Quite tannic and a bit syrupy in the mouth, with ultrasweet berry flavors and then a scratchy, forward finish. Has its merits but seems out of place and pushy for Spain. Imported by Classic Wines, Inc.
