Castaño 2001 Hécula Monastrell (Yecla)
Best Buy
Price
$12
A modern-style offering from the up-and-coming region of Yecla, near Alicante. The grape used is Monastrell, a k a Mourvèdre. It’s bold and packed with blackberry, pepper and other spices. Castaño 2006 Rosado Monastrell (Yecla)
Best Buy
Online Exclusive
Price
$9
Dry, full and with integrity, this mild-mannered rosado sings in a steady, firm voice. It doesn't go beyond the basics of semicrisp berry flavors and a touch of pepper. It's good wine made from the local Monastrell (Mourvedre), but dialed back; expect no bells or whistles.
