This appealingly tender Dolcetto boasts floral aromas backed by ripe plums and black cherries. Medium-bodied, it shows good length on the velvety-supple finish. Imported by Zonin USA.

Castello del Poggio 2003 Barbera (Barbera d'Asti)
Best Buy
Price
$13
The Poggio is a friendly wine with plenty of superripe blackberry fruit, a big, thick almost chunky structure that finishes with a burst of fruit. No great subtlety, but immensely likeable.

Castello del Poggio 2005 Masaréj Barbera (Barbera d'Asti)
Masaréj is Castello del Poggio’s top expression of Barbera d’Asti, but this vintage shows warm characteristics of earth, smoked bacon, bresaola, prunes and plums. It doesn’t seem to have what it takes for long aging, so drink up.

Castello del Poggio 2004 Moscato (Moscato d'Asti)
Best Buy
Price
$12
Textbook appearance for a Moscato d’Asti with a thick layer of foam and a pale straw color. The nose is not superintense but apricot, white blossoms and fresh fruit are direct and clean as a whistle. Equally fresh and straightforward in the mouth. Imported by Zonin USA.

Castello del Poggio 2006 Barbera (Barbera d'Asti)
This is a beautiful estate with an amphitheater of vines that represents one of the biggest single vineyards of Barbera in the Asti area. This particular expression ushers forth aromas of ripe fruit, smoked bacon and blackberry jam. It’s clean, compact and fresh on the close.

Castello del Poggio 2007 Dolcetto (Monferrato)
Price
$16
Castello del Poggio’s Dolcetto offers interesting aromas that recall ripe fruit, prune, spice and barbecue smoke. The wine is lean and streamlined on the palate with bright acidity and a pristine berry-flavored finish. Pair it with fried mozzarella sticks.
