Rondinaia means “swallow’s refuge,” but you’re going to want to swallow lots of this unoaked wine as proof that great Chard does come from Italy, and that it can be terrific without wood. Emphasizing fragrant apple and pear aromas, it has a wonderful natural texture and a smooth, stony finish.

Here’s a fresh straw-colored Chardonnay (that only sees stainless steel) with vibrant tones of stone fruit, yellow flower, melon, peach and drying minerals. Lean and crisp on the palate, it closes with nice spice and a touch of lemon zest.
