Castello di Poppiano 2000 Tricorno Sangiovese (Colli della Toscana Centrale)
Price
$50
You’re going to love this minty, ultra-stylish red from Ferdinando Guicciardini, which boasts a nose of sage, cardamom, chocolate and pure fruit. The mouth is deep and ripe, with delicious blackberry and boysenberry flavors. Finishes woody but satisfying. Drink after 2005.

Castello di Poppiano 1999 Tricorno Sangiovese (Colli della Toscana Centrale)
Editors' Choice
Price
$35
Smoky, rich and pure, with potent aromas of black fruit and coffee. This is thick, extracted stuff, but it’s beautifully balanced by grippy tannins that spread out rather than punish. The creamy finish is the coup de grace.

Castello di Poppiano 2003 Conte Ferdinando Guicciardini Tricorno Red (Colli della Toscana Centrale)
Price
$49
This blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet and Merlot exhibits excellent intensity and sweet, spice-box fragrances that are long-lasting and seductive. The wine’s intensity is enhanced by crisp red apple and sharper tones of cherry cola and root beer.

Castello di Poppiano 2006 Tricorno Red (Toscana)
Price
$45
Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are blended beautifully to produce a wine that shows bright fruit flavors, integrated acidity, fine tannins and a soft cherry finale. It’s almost as if you can taste the basic component of each variety used in this super Tuscan expression.

Castello di Poppiano 2004 Conte Ferdinando Guicciardini Syrah (Colli della Toscana Centrale)
Price
$24
This Syrah-based wine, with 10% Sangiovese, boasts gorgeous harmony and elegance. Tones of charred meat, leather and sweet spice are obvious but the wine also has delicate little touches of forest berry, lavender and rose petal that make it charming as well as powerful.

Castello di Poppiano 2000 Riserva Sangiovese (Chianti Colli Fiorentini)
Editors' Choice
Price
$22
This wine delivers bang for the buck as well as fine characteristics. On the bouquet, there’s leather, black cherry and so much depth it’s as if you’re looking down a well. Juicy yet firm on the palate, with plum, raspberry and chocolate flavors. Soft tannins don’t mean it’s flabby; rather they offer early drinkability.

Castello di Poppiano 2007 Tricorno Red (Toscana)
Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are deftly blended to produce a soft, thick wine with inky concentration and deep layers of blackberry and sweet spice. The wine could definitely age five years or more.

Castello di Poppiano 2005 Conte Ferdinando Guicciardini Tricorno Red (Toscana)
This blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet and Merlot offers warm notes of cherry, blackberry, spice and anise. The aromas are on the mature side and the mouthfeel is also very thick and chewy. Pair it with roasted leg of lamb and white Tuscan beans.
