Castello di Querceto 2001 Cignale Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot (Colli della Toscana Centrale)

  1. $69
You can’t help but fall in love at first sniff: Here is a gorgeous nose with cherry and blackberry preserves, crushed clove, incense, black licorice, espresso bean, vanilla and toasted wood notes. At the back of it all is a sweet touch of clover. The 10% Merlot helps render softer, rounder tannins and backs Cab’s structure and firmness.  — M.L.  (9/1/2006)

Castello di Querceto 2005 Il Picchio Riserva Sangiovese (Chianti Classico)

  1. $45
Riserva Il Picchio is a standout wine with dense concentration and a modern approach. The aromas are intense, immediate and recall black cherry, chocolate and cedar. Power, richness and the wine’s bold delivery make this an excellent companion to red meat or aged cheeses.  — M.L.  (6/1/2009)

Castello di Querceto 2004 Il Picchio Riserva Sangiovese (Chianti Classico)

  1. $45
Sophisticated and well-executed, with a dark, almost impenetrable consistency that has been enhanced by two years in oak barrique. Aromas of sweet vanilla and spice surround a core of juicy red cherry fruit. It has a thick structure, modern approach and long-lasting flavors of toasted nut and smoke.  — M.L.  (3/1/2008)

Castello di Querceto 2003 Cignale Cabernet Sauvignon (Colli della Toscana Centrale)

  1. $68
This lovely Tuscan Cabernet is blended with 10% Merlot and aged two years in French oak to render a softer, velvet-like wine that is an absolute joy to drink. The aromas are deep and penetrating and include sweet milk chocolate, cherry berry, leather, coffee and tobacco. The wine makes an excellent impression in the mouth with a long tail of roasted espresso bean…  — M.L.  (9/1/2006)

Castello di Querceto 2003 Il Sole di Alessandro Cabernet Sauvignon (Colli della Toscana Centrale)

Castello di Querceto 2001 Il Querciolaia Red (Colli della Toscana Centrale)

  1. $50
This wine has prominent aromas that are often associated with Sangiovese: cherry, natural spice, wet earth, white mushroom, plum, cola and Mediterranean herbs. It slides broadly across the palate, with crisp freshness on the close.  — M.L.  (4/1/2008)

Castello di Querceto 2005 Riserva Sangiovese (Chianti Classico)

  1. $24
Concentrated and rich, this is a bold and meaty wine with thick layers of blackberry pie, dried currants and smoked ham. Its density and intensity make it almost too much of a good thing and the wine closes with loads of dark spice and smoke.  — M.L.  (6/1/2009)

Castello di Querceto 2003 La Corte Sangiovese (Colli della Toscana Centrale)

  1. $46
This Sangiovese is deeply concentrated, redolent of raw blueberry, simple red fruit, spice, leather and perfumed candle. The sour cherry notes on the finish add a tart, crisp point on the tail end of this wine.  — M.L.  (4/1/2008)
