Castelvero 1998 Barbera (Barbera di Piemonte)

  • Best Buy
  1. $8
A bright and lively wine, with cherry, roses, and a smoky element on the nose. Delivers a good hit of sweet cherry fruit, a good mouthfeel, and a juicy finish. Very nice, especially at the price. Best Buy.  — W.E.  (4/1/2000)

Castelvero 1996 Barbera (Barbera d'Asti)

  • Best Buy
  1. $12
A solid medium-weight example with textbook blackberry and chocolate aromas. Tangy red-cherry fruit shows well on the palate, with some cocoa and dusty rose notes. Good mouthfeel and a clean, juicy finish. Best Buy.  — W.E.  (4/1/2000)

Castelvero 2003 Barbera (Piedmont)

  • Best Buy
  1. $9
From the region of Monferrato, this joyous wine just oozes youth, from its vivid purple hue to its fruity-perfumey aromas and bright flavors of cherries and plums. Sure, it’s a little on the simple side, but it’s fun to drink and would make a great pizza wine.  — J.C.  (11/15/2004)

Castelvero 2008 Cortese (Piedmont)

  1. $10
Here’s a luminous and crystalline white wine in a screwcap bottle with linear and direct aromas of white mineral, kiwi and pear. The mouthfeel is crisp and compact and this easygoing white would drink well with fish, summer foods and salads.  — M.L.  (9/1/2010)

Castelvero 2001 Cortese (Piedmont)

  1. $9
The nose is akin to sweet pear, while the plate is mostly orange and apple. Despite it being low on acids, and consequently low on zip, the citrus flavors are good and the wine is round and pleasant. Some sweet pineapple works its way onto the finish.  — M.S.  (12/15/2003)

Castelvero 2006 Cortese (Piedmont)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $10
This light-colored Cortese is an easy-going white that manages to be both very light and quite complex. The aromas of roasted peaches and apricots is lovely but low in intensity. The same can be said for the palate; complex and a touch dilute. The finish on this surprising, it has a real persistence to it.  — M.G.  (12/31/2007)

Castelvero 2001 Barbera (Piedmont)

  1. $10
This regional Barbera is sweet and sugary, with thin fruit at the base. Seems false, although it doesn’t taste truly bad.  — M.S.  (12/15/2003)
