Cavalier Bartolomeo 2006 Cannubi San Lorenzo Nebbiolo (Barolo)

Here’s a wine that begs a pairing with a truffle dish: black truffle Cornish hen or creamy risotto with white truffle flakes would do the trick. Cannubi San Lorenzo’s aromas include spice, cherry, cola, white licorice, white mushroom and smoked ham. This is a beautiful wine with a firm, determined but elegant finish.  — M.L.  (12/1/2010)

Cavalier Bartolomeo 2007 Solanotto Altenasso Nebbiolo (Barolo)

This pretty Barolo opens with inky-dark concentration and warm aromas of wet earth, button mushroom, ripe berry fruit and dark spice. The wine shows excellent structure with firm tannins and a long, drying, intense feel on the finish.  — M.L.  (9/1/2011)

Cavalier Bartolomeo 1998 Vigneti Solanotto Altinasso Nebbiolo (Barolo)

  1. $65
Nicely complex, blending such varied elements as smoke, vanilla, cured meat, tar, tobacco, plums and cherries in a pretty, lush package. Chewy tannins on the finish impart a hint of black tea. Try after 2010, when the tannins should have melted away.  — W.E.  (4/2/2004)

Cavalier Bartolomeo 2006 Solanotto Altenasso Nebbiolo (Barolo)

  • Online Exclusive
Here’s a newly released Barolo that appears older than it actually is. The wine’s ruby color shows a browning edge and aromas here reflect tertiary tones of balsam, drying mineral and licorice. In the mouth, you’ll get iron-like flavors backed by fine, drying tannins. Don’t wait too much longer to drink this wine.  — M.L.  (12/1/2010)
