Five generations of the Nieuwoud family have run the Cederberg farm, and this wine, along with a Cabernet Sauvignon, are here to commemorate. This is a great full-bodied white, showing a successful marriage of wood and peachy, aromatic fruit, layered with acidity. A delicious wine with aging potential. Imported by Global Vineyard Importers.

The Nieuwould family has farmed at Cederberg for five generations—hence the name. This top Cabernet from the estate vineyards comes from old vines, giving huge concentration and elegance. Aged for 18 months in wood, this intense, berry- dominated wine also shows big, dry fruit tannins, and should age for a good 10 years.

Cocoa dusted black raspberry, black currant and plum aromas up front transition to flavors of blackberry and fudgy brownie. Creamy and full in the mouth with medium tannins and a velvety texture. Approachable now, but pair with a good steak or fatty game like shoulder lamb chops for balance.

Deep and intense, the bouquet is like a bowl of black cherries muddled with a mocha latte and drizzled with raspberry sauce. Accents of sweet cigar tobacco and purple florals add herbal complexity to the ripe fruit core, while moderate acidity and fine tannins texturize the lush mouthfeel. Drink now–2013.

Tangy and dry, with subdued pear-citrus-tropical fruit flavors and plenty of chalk-mineral-herb notes. This classy wine can hold its own with good Loire Chenin Blancs. It will sing with broiled or grilled seafood and most Asian cuisine.

This Shiraz has a vibrant purple hue and aromas of cassis, dark berries, leather and grilled meats. Nicely balanced, with acidity playing counterpoint to sweet tannins, the wine offers cassis and black fruit flavors with hints of lemon and leather. Picks up coffee notes on the impressively long finish.

Tobacco, smoke, and dark berry on the nose lead into juicy flavors of cassis and pepper. Beefy but elegant, the wine offers waves of lively fruit and a finish that lingers. It’s a serious wine but embraceable now. Hold for another 5 years to really see what it can do.

Cederburg’s Chenin offers all of the best hallmarks of that variety: the crisp, refreshing flavors and aromas of pineapple, apple and citrus, the alluring, tongue-coating viscosity, the food-friendly poise. At this price, this wine could easily become an at-home regular. Pair it with everything from fresh fish to spicy Pad Thai—it will handle it all beautifully.
