C.G. di Arie 2001 Zinfandel (Shenandoah Valley (CA))

  1. $25
What a nice Zin. It’s focused and intense in Zinny flavors, with ripe, chocolaty flavors of wild berries, and despite the sweetness, it’s totally dry. Balanced and silky, it’s a great example of its terroir.  — S.H.  (12/15/2004)

C.G. di Arie 2008 Zinfandel (Sierra Foothills)

  1. $18
A very spicy, thick mountain-fruit Zin that shows a fantastic balance between blackberry fruit and peppery, briary-ness with dark chocolate showing up on the finish. An elegant Zin from a producer striving to do good things in its little pocket of the Sierra Foothills’ world. It’s priced well.  — V.B.  (11/1/2011)

C.G. di Arie 2008 Barbera (Sierra Foothills)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $24
Closed and tight upon opening, once this Barbera is given time to open it has great mouthfeel, subtle at first and then explosive on the midpalate with tart cherry and chocolate carrying through to the finish.  — V.B.  (9/1/2011)

C.G. di Arie 2009 Verdelho (Shenandoah Valley (CA))

  1. $18
Crisp and lemony with a full, honeyed and rich finish, this Portuguese white made out of the Sierra Foothills screams for seafood. If you’ve never tasted a California Verdelho, this would be a good place to start.  — V.B.  (11/1/2011)

C.G. di Arie 2008 Interlude Red (Sierra Foothills)

  1. $25
A red blend of Zinfandel, Syrah, Petite Sirah and Primitivo, much of it estate grown, full of chewy mountain fruit flavors, structured and smoky (in a good way) and earthy, too. The traces of licorice and herbs would be interesting with a similarly herbed piece of fish or chicken.  — V.B.  (11/1/2011)

C.G. di Arie 2008 Estate Grown, Block 4 Primitivo (Shenandoah Valley (CA))

  1. $25
This Sierra Foothills Primitivo smells good, lively and of dark, berries, which carry into the taste of the wine. Well-integrated and the alcohol reined in, this effort finishes with a lasting note of cocoa.  — V.B.  (11/1/2011)

C.G. di Arie 2008 Estate Petite Sirah (Shenandoah Valley (CA))

  1. $30
This 77% Petite Sirah has 23% Syrah blended into it, the result entirely satisfying with a rich full nose of dark berries and chocolate and spicy plum, the tannins a touch dusty in taste. This wine would be delicious with a meaty pizza or lasagna layered with meat and cheese.  — V.B.  (10/1/2011)

C.G. di Arie 2007 Block #4 Primitivo (Shenandoah Valley (CA))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $25
This wine resembles Zinfandel, although it’s drier and smoother in the mouth, with a silky texture. Nonetheless, it has robust flavors of wild, dried dark fruits and berries, sprinkled with cocoa and black pepper. It’s a nice wine to drink now with everything from roast ham to grilled chicken.  — S.H.  (11/1/2010)
