Charles de Fere NV Grande Cuvée Sparkling (Crémant de Bourgogne)

  1. $15
A classic Champagne blend of Chard and Pinot Noir gives this wine some good depth and ripe flavors. Has flavors of toast, spices and pears as well as some good tannin structure. The finish is dry, with just a hint of softness. Imported by Boisset America.  — R.V.  (6/1/2006)

  1. $10
Spry and alert, with crisp apple aromas and some baking spice for good measure. Equally crisp on the palate, where lime, green apple and pepper run the show. Moderate but extended in terms of feel and finish; tasty and snappy overall. Imported by Boisset America.  — M.S.  (12/31/2005)

Charles de Fere NV Brut Tradition Sparkling (France)

  1. $12
Sizable, in fact, almost chunky. The nose shows some pear and honey balanced by a shot of green herb. The palate is big, with ripe apple and tangerine notes. Tight and focused on the finish, with a mildly chalky, sticky mouthfeel. Imported by Boisset America.  — M.S.  (12/31/2005)

Charles de Fere NV Tradition Brut Chardonnay (France)

  1. $10
Forward and fruity, with a nice blend of light floral and apple aromas. This is a good, round, pleasant wine, clean and mouthfilling. For its price it offers well-balanced flavors and surprising length.  — P.G.  (12/15/2002)

Charles de Fere NV Cuvée Jean-Louis Blanc de Blancs Brut Sparkling (France)

  1. $8
The nose has real elegance, a splendid mix of apple, grapefruit and white peach scents. In the mouth baked apple and rich toasty flavors prevail, creating a strong and quite complex middle. The only disappointment is in the finish, which fails to hang together. But this is still a heckuva bottle for eight bucks.  — P.G.  (12/15/2002)

Charles de Fere NV Muscat Blanc Petits Grains - Reserve (France)

  1. $12
A dessert style sparkling Muscat of startling intensity. It opens with sweet scents of lemon and tangerine, which lead into a big, juicy wine with a powerful burst of concentrated fruit. There are plenty of lively bubbles, and a big finish given an “edge” by defining citrus-rind flavors.  — P.G.  (12/15/2002)

Charles de Fere NV Réserve French Shiraz (Vin Mousseux)

  • Online Exclusive
This is one for the Australians, with their fine tradition of red sparkling wines made from Shiraz. For people of other nationalities, it’s more of a curiosity, with firm tannins, some sweetness from ripe fruit and finishing acidity. When to drink it? Probably with a red fruit dessert.  — R.V.  (6/1/2006)

Charles de Fere NV Blanc de Blancs Réserve Brut Sparkling (France)

Yeasty, smooth and round, with tropical-fruit aromas. Melon, apple and nutmeg/cinnamon aromas are pretty nice while the finish is solid, warm and round. A nice quaffer with just enough nuance and style to rise above the masses. Imported by Boisset America.  — M.S.  (12/31/2005)
