Charles Lafitte 1989 Orgueil de France Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  1. $100
Rich and aged, but still fairly fresh. Smells like scrambled egg, vanilla and pear, setting up flavors of citrus and apple. Plenty of zesty acidity keeps this wine kicking, and the butterscotch and dust on the finish are nice and add depth. Imported by Vranken America.  — M.S.  (12/31/2005)

Charles Lafitte NV Grand Cuvée Brut Rosé Sparkling (Champagne)

  1. $32
Meaty and muscular, with a beefy heft that can’t be denied. Fortunately, some peach and berry character affords it the fruit it needs. Flavors of spiced peaches, licorice and grapefruit carry the palate, while it finishes smoky and mildly fruity. With pop and power, this one doesn’t tread lightly.  — M.S.  (12/15/2003)

Charles Lafitte NV Grand Cuvée Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  1. $27
Very pretty, with applesauce, bread and cinnamon aromas. The palate sports green apple and papaya flavors, which are followed nicely by a finish that’s dry and smooth. With good size, spirit and substance, this wine hits the right chords.  — M.S.  (12/15/2003)

Charles Lafitte NV Brut Rosé Sparkling (Champagne)

  1. $43
Earthy and spicy, blending cinnamon and mushroom nuances with meaty, dark-berried flavors. Yet despite the rich-sounding flavors, the mouthfeel is fresh and lively. Try it with red meats and surprise your guests.  — J.C.  (12/1/2004)

Charles Lafitte NV Grande Cuvée Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  1. $21
Salty, even briny scents dominate, along with a slightly resinous character. In the mouth this is a flavorful, rather heavy wine which carries its weight and power in the dead center of the palate. Nothing elegant here, but it’s a good mouthful of fruit, finishing with an herbal-metallic note.  — P.G.  (12/15/2002)

Charles Lafitte NV Grande Cuvée Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  1. $27
It’s tart and earthy, with heavy fruit flavors and some spice in the finish. Nothing elegant here, but it’s a good mouthful of fruit with concentration and a crisp, appley flavor extending through the satisfying finish.  — P.G.  (12/1/2000)

Charles Lafitte NV Cuvée Spéciale Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  1. $37
A fresh, lively Champagne, quite soft with crisp white pears and a light sweetness which integrates well with the fruit. Young, without complexity, a good apéritif Champagne.  — R.V.  (12/1/2007)

Charles Lafitte NV Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  1. $33
Light but very fresh, boasting scents of lemons and limes alongside ginger and fresh herbs. Tart and very dry-tasting on the finish; try with oysters on the half shell.  — J.C.  (12/1/2004)
