Château Ausone 2010 Barrel sample Red (Saint-Emilion)

98-100. Very concentrated and wonderfully perfumed wine. It has great balance and acidity, intense freshness. The superb fragrance of the Cabernet Franc has made a gorgeous wine, black fruited and likely to age for decades.  — R.V.  (6/25/2011)

97-99 Barrel sample. It may be 14.5 percent alcohol, but, with its huge freshness, the wine almost sings with elegance. The texture is opulent, with intense black fruits and a core of solid tannins. Impressive balance.  — R.V.  (8/9/2010)

Château Ausone 2000 Red (Saint-Emilion)

  1. $600
Forget all those garage wines, forget the upstarts of Saint-Emilion. When you want real class, you have to turn to Ausone. What a wine - magnificently dense and opaque, hugely rich and sensual. Yet it doesn’t seem in the least decadent - for deep inside the wine is a huge backbone of ripe tannins. Keep for at least 10 years  — R.V.  (6/1/2003)

Château Ausone 2008 Barrel sample Red (Saint-Emilion)

  • Online Exclusive
96-98 Barrel sample. While there is a surprising amount of wood here, the fruit gives a great ripe swathe of blackberry and red plum flavors. The wood spice goes with an impressive weight of fruit, shining through a lovely, perfumed aftertaste.  — R.V.  (12/31/2009)

Château Ausone 2006 Red (Saint-Emilion)

  • Cellar Selection
Strength and elegance go together in this wine. It has a pure line of clear berry fruits that float above the tannic core. It is not so much rich as dense, the tannins a vivid counterpoint to the fruit. The wine finishes with fine, elegant sweetness, but it is the purity of line that stays in the memory. Age for 10 years at least.  — R.V.  (3/1/2009)

Wonderfully perfumed wine that exudes class. It has weight and extraction, its tannins lending themselves to the ripe texture. The wine is concentrated, dense in texture and for aging.  — R.V.  (4/1/2011)

Château Ausone 2006 Barrel Sample Red (Saint-Emilion)

95-97 Barrel Sample A hugely dense wine, all power and dark tannins. Very concentrated, this is dark, a firm, solid structure covering the huge black plum fruit flavors. It’s all about power.  — R.V.  (6/1/2007)
