92–94. Barrel sample. Solid, firm and tannic, this is a powerful success. It has equal weight of fruit and tannins and a palate that’s intensely structured and complex. For long-term aging.

90-92. Barrel sample. Aromas of new wood mark this wine. On the palate, the tannins are gentle, with flavors of ripe black plum, nutmeg and milk chocolate.

89-91 Barrel sample. Firmly tannic, ripe, spicy, fruit cake of a wine. The dried fruits are an important element, giving attractive sweetness, while the dense, dry tannins provide a counterpoint.

The French often use the name Benjamin to indicate a youngest son, and this second wine from Château Beauregard exhibits all the youthful exuberance of a young wine. It doesn’t have weight, but it does have balance and fresh acidity, given depth by wood.

87-89 Rich, though a wine that seems to lack an inner core. It is all beautiful fruit, super-ripe, laced with acidity, missing the structure.

85-87 Barrel sample. Hugely rich, very spicy, this wine is powered by huge Merlot flavors. There is some fine acidity, which gives the wine a lift, but essentially it's all about unsubtle power.
