90–92. Barrel sample. Under the same stable as Château Angélus, this is a densely textured wine, with powerful concentration from ripe Merlot. Full-bodied and intensely ripe.

Mint and tannins feature in the initial flavor, then it opens out to show delicious blackberry juice fruit. The tannins are dry but integrate with acidity to give more serious aspect to this balanced wine.

A lean, too tannic wine that shows black currant acidity, almost austere in its dry character. There is good density as well, that promises a year or two of aging before opening up.

On the lean side for a 2009 Bordeaux, this brings out a dry, tannic character, just softened with sweet black currant juice. There is stalky acidity on the finish.
