91-93 Deliciously fresh wine, the acidity striking to the core of the balanced tannins. The texture is dusty, firm, preserving elegance.  — R.V.  (6/25/2011)

Château Cambon la Pelouse 2008 L'Aura de Cambon Red (Margaux)

The heavy bottle, as so often, is the giveaway: This is meant as an important statement. The wine comes from a small parcel of vines owned by Cambon la Pelouse in Margaux. It has 100% new wood, but the richness of the fruit balances, giving a smooth, rich wine with black berry, bitter chocolate and mint flavors.  — R.V.  (12/31/2010)

Château Cambon la Pelouse 2007 L’Aura de Cambon Red (Margaux)

  1. $40
While not strictly part of the Haut-Médoc Château Cambon la Pelouse, this small parcel in Margaux is under the same ownership and vinification. The wine has weight, some solid fruit, with the wood adding polish but not dominating. A well-structured wine for medium-term aging.  — R.V.  (6/1/2010)

Château Cambon la Pelouse 2006 L'Aura Red (Margaux)

Produced from a small acre of land in Margaux, this is made in the same extravagant style as the cult wines of Saint-Emilion. With 100% new wood, it is definitely modern in style, but there is sufficient concentration in the fruit to balance all that vanilla. It misses the 2006 freshness, but everything else is there.  — R.V.  (3/1/2009)

Château Cambon la Pelouse 2008 Red (Haut-Médoc)

With hints of mint, and a firm structure from wood as well as tannins, this is a flattering wine. The tannins are rich, layered within the jammy black berry fruits. This is a wine for aging, but is deceptively attractive now.  — R.V.  (12/31/2010)

Château Cambon la Pelouse 2007 Red (Haut-Médoc)

  1. $20
Cool, calm wine, its fruit and tannins kept nicely in check. There is a classic feel here, square and elegant. The berry fruits are bright, with a spurt of sweet and sour acidity. Age for 3–4 years.  — R.V.  (6/1/2010)

Château Cambon la Pelouse 2006 Red (Haut-Médoc)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $20
A perfumed, new wood-dominated wine, but one that does have the weight of fruit to support the wood. The tannins edge between fruit and wood, layered over rich black plums and bitter chocolate flavors. Under everything is fresh acidity to give the wine a welcome, vivid final lift.  — R.V.  (3/1/2009)
