Château d'Agassac 2004 Red (Haut-Médoc)

From almost nowhere, in 10 years Agassac has shot to stardom, thanks to big investments by insurance company Groupama. Under the management of Jean-Luc Zell, new wood has become a dominant item in vinification. In 2004, this is verging on too much, but ripe blackberry flavors should assert themselves in 2–3 years. A wine for modern Bordeaux lovers.  — R.V.  (6/1/2007)

Château d'Agassac 2003 Red (Haut-Médoc)

This chateau has recently been purchased by an insurance company. Money has been no object in restructuring the property, and the results for the past 4 or 5 vintages have been impressive. It’s a ripe wine, almost opulent, with ripe cherry and blueberry flavors, lending sweetness and tannins. Flattering now, it will mature quickly. Imported by PJ Wines.  — R.V.  (5/1/2006)

Château d'Agassac 2000 Mis en bouteille au Chateau Red (Haut-Médoc)

  1. $15
Dark in color, with a bit of lemony oak to the nose as well as chocolate and black plum. The palate is a basic Bordeaux mix of cassis, earth, plum and tree bark. The clean, smooth finish confirms the wine’s ripeness. A good middle-of-the-road red for everyday affairs.  — M.S.  (6/1/2003)
