Château Ducru Beaucaillou 2009 Barrel sample Red (Saint-Julien)

  • Online Exclusive
95-97 Barrel sample. Big and powerful, structured, with bitter chocolate and blackberry flavors. The wine is dense, the fruit enormous. But it does manage to keep freshness.  — R.V.  (8/9/2010)

Château Ducru Beaucaillou 2005 Barrel sample Red (Saint-Julien)

  • Online Exclusive
94-96 Barrel sample. Huge blackcurrant fruits dominate a wine that is powerful and showing very ripe. There are flavors of smoky, balanced tannins, bitter cherries, black figs. As all the great wines in 2005, it finishes with a delicious lift of acidity.  — R.V.  (6/20/2006)

94-96. Barrel sample. This wine is big, dense and impressive with plenty of concentration as well as acidity. It is balanced, bringing the big, ripe black-fruit flavor and firm tannins together with great style.  — R.V.  (4/4/2012)

Château Ducru Beaucaillou 2008 Red (Saint-Julien)

Score Chasers: France 2011
Chocolate, coffee and sweet plum notes give this wine great richness. It has wood that needs time to integrate, although the main character is beautiful, velvet-textured, ripe fruit and plenty of sweet tannins.  — R.V.  (4/1/2011)

Château Ducru Beaucaillou 2008 Barrel sample Red (Saint-Julien)

  • Online Exclusive
93-95 Barrel sample. This is very rich, very ripe, maybe even too much, but the fruit is certainly inviting. The tannin is lost in the welter of ripe fruits, that give a jammy, concentrated character. Only at the end does a chewy aspect emerge.  — R.V.  (12/31/2009)

Château Ducru Beaucaillou 2004 Red (Saint-Julien)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $70
Impressively dense, dark flavored wine, very rich and quite extracted. But it still keeps the elegance and some of the freshness of 2004, and there is plenty of blackberry flavor to push the wine along. Heavier than many 2004s, it still shows that great acidity.  — R.V.  (12/16/2007)

Château Ducru Beaucaillou 2006 Red (Saint-Julien)

This is that rare Bordeaux Cabernet that comes close in style to a Napa Cabernet. The character comes from the mint aromas and medicinal edge, formed from new wood aging. At this stage in its development, the wine is powerful, but closed and tight. However, it is possible to taste the ripe perfumes and the black cherry juice flavors that come through the vanilla.  — R.V.  (3/1/2009)
