Château Grand Corbin-Despagne 2004 Red (Saint-Emilion)

Demoted in 1996, losing its classed growth status, the Despagne family set to work to get back on top, which was achieved in 2006. By 2004, they were on a roll, making a powerfully rich wine, with a good texture, spice from the Cabernet Franc, and some firm, dark tannins, layered with wood.  — R.V.  (6/1/2007)

Château Grand Corbin-Despagne 2006 Barrel sample Red (Saint-Emilion)

  • Online Exclusive
90—92 Barrel sample. Promoted in 2006 to Grand Cru Classé, this is a dense wine, very concentrated, more about tannin than fruit. It’s hugely firm, hugely dense.  — R.V.  (12/31/2009)

Château Grand Corbin-Despagne 2008 Barrel sample Red (Saint-Emilion)

89-91 Barrel sample. A mineral, austere style of wine, which offers dense tannins in a firm, dry style. It is a big wine, but the edge is taut, tight, on a coil.  — R.V.  (12/31/2009)

Château Grand Corbin-Despagne 2000 Red (Saint-Emilion)

  1. $25
François Despagne has certainly pulled this property together after it lost Grand Cru Classé status in 1996. The 2000 shows real class and style. It has plenty of new wood flavors, but they are well judged and have been used to support the solid fruit and black tannins. It is developing fast, but the tannins are there to allow it to age.  — R.V.  (6/1/2003)

Château Grand Corbin-Despagne 2002 Red (Saint-Emilion)

With its serious dry style, this is a solid, firmly tannic wine with dry, smoky black fruits and good concentration. It will age well, and shows that this estate is right back in good form.  — R.V.  (6/1/2005)
