Château Léoville Las Cases 2009 Red (Saint-Julien)

  • Cellar Selection

A beautifully structured wine, with its tannins layered between the ripest black plums, damsons and black currants. It is opulent while remaining dense, concentrated and very serious. Certainly a wine for long-term aging.  — R.V.  (4/1/2012)

A classic in development, a wine that will last for decades. It is certainly powerful, but already the shape is finalized, with its plums and berries settling down with perfumes, acidity, just enough tannins and a warm, welcoming richness. A great argument for the superiority of 2001 over 2000.  — R.V.  (12/16/2007)

Château Léoville Las Cases 2009 Barrel sample Red (Saint-Julien)

  • Online Exclusive
96-98 Barrel sample. A powerful wine, packed with tannins from structured Cabernet fruits. It exudes muscularity, intensity and concentration. The wood element is present. Maybe the final freshness is missing.  — R.V.  (8/9/2010)

Château Léoville Las Cases 2010 Barrel sample Red (Saint-Julien)

  • Online Exclusive
96-98 A hugely dense wine, with a great smoky character, power as well as the greatest finesse. It has rich berry fruits, weaving through the dusty tannic structure, very powerful, concentrated. The end is more severe, along with the year's hallmark juiciness.  — R.V.  (6/25/2011)

Château Léoville Las Cases 2011 Barrel Sample Red (Saint-Julien)

  • Online Exclusive
95-97. Barrel sample. This wine is immensely dark, powered by black plum and a ripe, complex structure; its elements are already molding into place. Expect great things of this wine.  — R.V.  (4/4/2012)

Château Léoville Las Cases 2005 Barrel sample Red (Saint-Julien)

  • Online Exclusive
95-97 Barrel sample. A big wine with dense tannins, but so elegant. Dark, intense, with layers of acidity underneath that only show through at the end. Unusually, Cabernet Sauvignon dominates this wine, a sign of the ripeness of the Cabernet fruit.  — R.V.  (6/20/2006)

Château Léoville Las Cases 2006 Red (Saint-Julien)

While the aromas are tight and firm, once it is in the mouth, this wine just explodes. The tannins are dark, almost impenetrable, dry and dense. These tannins are a layer over the fruit that just piles up with ripe blackberry juice, an edge of blueberry. The soft sweetness of this range of flavors continues on the finish, pitted against the tannins.  — R.V.  (3/1/2009)

Château Léoville Las Cases 2008 Barrel sample Red (Saint-Julien)

  • Online Exclusive
94-96 Barrel sample. A seriously dense and solid wine, that is however balanced with fruity acidity. The ripe tannins march comfortably with the fruit. This is a wonderfully rich wine, the juicy fruit giving an extra to the structure.  — R.V.  (12/31/2009)
