Château Léoville-Poyferré 2010 Barrel sample Red (Saint-Julien)

  • Online Exclusive
95-97 Firmly tannic, although with wonderful fresh fruit, black currant skins, damsons, followed by bitter chocolate. It is certainly tough and dense, with the juicy acidity of the year giving a lifted finish.  — R.V.  (6/25/2011)

94-96 Barrel sample. A beautiful wine, with its fresh wood, lively blackcurrant juice flavors, and subtle tannins. It has a lift and liveliness to it, which sits easily over the firm structure.  — R.V.  (12/31/2009)

Château Léoville-Poyferré 2001 Red (Saint-Julien)

The completeness of 2001, with its miraculous balance, is present in this wine. The acidity, ripe blackcurrants sit comfortably on top of dry tannins, the fleshiness of the fruit taking the edge off the tannins. It seems to bring out the structure, the fruit and the refreshing acidity of great Cabernet.  — R.V.  (12/16/2007)
