Château Los Boldos 2000 Vieilles Vignes Cabernet Sauvignon (Requinoa)

Solid and full-bodied, with thoroughness to the nose. Flavors of blackberry, cassis, pepper and savory spice are totally convincing, while the finish is tight and right if not exactly effusive. This Cab is made from a vineyard that houses vines planted 150 years ago, so it has some serious terroir. Imported by Five Star Imports.

Pleasant aromas of earth and peanuts are tight on fruit, but the fruit comes through on the palate where you get potent plums and currants. The wine is very smooth, as all of its components are in balance, then finishes long.

Château Los Boldos 2008 Grand Cru Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot (Cachapoal Valley)

Light mint and herbal aromas get it going, followed by dry, complex scents of tobacco, licorice, leather and blackberry. This is 80% Cabernet and 20% Merlot, and it’s a bit angular on the tongue but the flavors of cassis, black cherry and plum are juicy and bold. Turns more oaky with airing, especially on the long, herbal finish.

Château Los Boldos 1997 Grand Cru Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot (Requinoa)

The Massenez family from Alsace is to thank for this Bordeaux blend, which offers fleshy, dusty black-plum and red-berry fruit flavors, and a medium-long finish rife with oak and red berry. The nice nougaty-marscapone aromas are unfortunately overtaken by oak.

Fairly saucy and earthy, with root beer and leather establishing a presence on the nose. Plump berry and plum flavors carry the palate, followed by toast, chocolate and espresso on the finish. A touch grabby and tannic but overall it’s more right than wrong. Imported by Five Star Imports.

Château Los Boldos 2001 Vielles Vignes Chardonnay (Requinoa)

The old-vine name is French, as are the estate owners, and the wine itself is pretty good despite being a bit thick, chewy and aimless. The nose is full but nondescript, while apple and oak-driven flavors define the palate. The finish is textured and woody. Mouthfeel is its primary attribute while interesting or unusual tastes prove elusive.
