Château Palmer 2009 Barrel Sample Red (Margaux)

  • Online Exclusive

98-100 Barrel sample. Sumptuous, opulent, with gorgeous ripe fruit, and yet under 14 percent alcohol. The firm tannins are almost smothered by the delicious fruits. It is a great wine that expresses both the natural exuberance of Palmer and the rich fruit and balancing freshness of the vintage.

A beautiful wine, with the firmest tannins surrounded by perfumed fruit. It is dense, of course, but this density is balanced with great elegance, blackberry fruits, sweetness and final juicy acidity. The wine is structured, a powerhouse of concentration while preserving this complete style.

While outwardly this wine is generous and opulent with great juicy sweetness, the core is structured and powerful. The wine is concentrated and complex, with dark tannins and a brooding, dense texture. This is a wine with a long-lived future.

96-98 A beautiful wine, with its tannins powered from within the ripest black currant. There is spice, flavors of blueberries, chocolate, and powerfully concentrated tannins. Despite all this power, the elegance of great Margaux is all there.

Château Palmer 2013 Barrel Sample Red (Margaux)

95–97. Barrel Sample. This is a complex, structured, smoothly textured wine. It has more power and density than many wines in the vintage, with blackberry and black currant fruit coming through strongly. The result is a wine that’s balanced and structured. This is for long-term aging.

95-97. Barrel sample. A wine that has density, structure and firm tannins, with touches of wood. At this stage, it is solid and impressive; and the tannins draw the great fresh fruit into the heart of the wine.

Château Palmer 2005 Red (Margaux)

Aromas of black tar, chocolate and berries lead to a wine that is so effortlessly delicious that it’s easy to forget the power the Merlot gives it. The center is round, but dark, filled with sweetness; the outer layers are full of red jelly and toast. There are tannins, but they, too, are sweet.

  1. $250

A serious and concentrated wine that is one of the stars of the vintage. With its tight tannins and a considerable sense of structure, it shows a dark and dense side. It’s full in the mouth, black plum skins and intense acidity giving a lilt of freshness at the end. Drink from 2019.
