98-100 Barrel sample. Sumptuous, opulent, with gorgeous ripe fruit, and yet under 14 percent alcohol. The firm tannins are almost smothered by the delicious fruits. It is a great wine that expresses both the natural exuberance of Palmer and the rich fruit and balancing freshness of the vintage.

96-98 A beautiful wine, with its tannins powered from within the ripest black currant. There is spice, flavors of blueberries, chocolate, and powerfully concentrated tannins. Despite all this power, the elegance of great Margaux is all there.

Château Palmer 2005 Red (Margaux)
Aromas of black tar, chocolate and berries lead to a wine that is so effortlessly delicious that it’s easy to forget the power the Merlot gives it. The center is round, but dark, filled with sweetness; the outer layers are full of red jelly and toast. There are tannins, but they, too, are sweet.

Rich and concentrated, touched easily by toasty wood. The tannins are so sweet, blending easily into the powerful texture of black berry fruits with, hints of licorice. This is a ripe wine, its acidity always present.

93-95 Barrel sample. With an higher proportion of Merlot than is usual even at Palmer, this wine, goes for lovely fresh, soft fruits. There is a touch of spice, juicy red berries, finally getting to a depth of dusty, chewy tannins.
