Chatter Creek 2002 Clifton Hill Vineyard Syrah (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $30
A young, spicy Syrah, this shows unusually bright and intense fruit, a mix of purple plums and blackberries. There are unusual candied citrus highlights, hints of herb and spice. Top-shelf juice.  — P.G.  (6/1/2005)

Chatter Creek 2000 Lonesome Spring Ranch Syrah (Yakima Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $20
The winemaker, Gordy Rawson, spent years at Columbia Winery, and learned a thing or two about Syrah. A pretty nose shows ripe berry fruit and sweet toast. This is really good juice, varietal and lip-smackingly tart, with a generous amount of fat, flavorful new oak. Editors’ Choice.  — P.G.  (6/1/2002)

Chatter Creek 2004 Clifton Hill Vineyard Syrah (Wahluke Slope)

  1. $30
Clifton Hill has established itself as a premier source for Washington Syrah. One look at the glass shows you why: it’s as black as the night sky, with only the rim showing purple/garnet. Concentrated but not fat or jammy, it frames its black fruits with barrel fat and hints of pineapple. Young as it is, the wine has smoothed out nicely, and washes into a soft…  — P.G.  (11/1/2007)

Chatter Creek 2005 Alder Ridge Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Horse Heaven Hills)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $25
Along with Cab Sauvignon this wine has 15% Merlot and 10% Cab Franc. The Horse Heaven Hills fruit has a strong core of red currant fruit, wrapped in some chewy tannins that leave a lingering impression of green tea. There’s just a hint of herb and forest floor—a Bordelaise nuance—and it remains somewhat tight and stiff, needing more bottle age and/or decanting.  — P.G.  (7/1/2008)

Chatter Creek 2006 Viognier (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $24
As before, the new vintage of Chatter Creek Viognier treats you immediately to bracingly fresh scents of peach, apricot and ripe melon. Tart and leesy, immaculately clean, it starts with crisp, slightly bitter notes of lime and citrus, then fans out, adding a creamy texture to the mid-palate. This is a moderate 13.5% alcohol, rare in Washington Viognier.  — P.G.  (11/1/2007)

Chatter Creek 2005 'Blend 105' Red Wine (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $22
This is a Bordeaux blend, using all five grapes, mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Forward, fruity, round and immediately appealing, this tasty effort shows good balance and supporting structure, but the real story is the bright, vibrant Washington fruit, packed in tightly and substantial enough for aging.  — P.G.  (7/1/2008)

Chatter Creek 2008 Pinot Gris (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Best Buy
  1. $14
This is mostly Evergreen vineyard, and includes 10% Viognier. Good, juicy, loaded with melon and citrus. The Viognier gives the wine some lift and brightness, and the tartness adds even more liveliness to the finish.  — P.G.  (3/1/2010)

Chatter Creek 2000 Jack Jones Vineyard Syrah (Washington)

  1. $20
No, it’s not that Jack Jones. But it’s a fine bottle of wine, with tight, hard fruit that opens slowly into a lovely mélange of plums and cherries. Tangy and tannic, this one needs some more time to come together, but all the components are right there.  — P.G.  (6/1/2002)
