Chimney Rock 2009 Tomahawk Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Stags Leap District)

  1. $135
This is so charming now, it’s hard to keep from drinking it. But it also has the dynamic tension to age well. Chimney Rock enters a whole new ballgame with its 2009 releases, which can stand against almost anything in Napa Valley. With a fleshy mouthfeel, softly sculpted tannins and complex flavors of blackberry, cassis, dark chocolate and plum sauce, this wine is…  — S.H.  (12/1/2012)

Chimney Rock 2009 Ganymede Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Stags Leap District)

  1. $125
Delicious, stunning and dramatic, this varietal Cabernet shows exquisite balance of its many parts. The tannins are fierce but refined; the dryness complements flavors of ripe blackberry, black currant and dark chocolate; its smoky oak is subtle; a refreshing acidity provides life and zest. The overall impression is of an extraordinarily fine wine, drinkable now…  — S.H.  (12/1/2012)

Chimney Rock 2008 Tomahawk Cabernet Sauvignon (Stags Leap District)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $115
This is a frankly delicious young Cabernet, hailing from a small vineyard to showcase its qualities. It’s deeply flavored in blackberries and currants, with the most delicious dark chocolate sweetness. Yet it also has the tannic backbone to last. It’s one of those wines you can drink now, or age for at least six years to see what it can do.  — S.H.  (3/1/2012)

Chimney Rock 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (Stags Leap District)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $61
This is Chimney Rock’s best Stags Leap Cabernet since the 2005, and continues a string of successful vintages. Dry and smooth and silky in the mouth, it’s pretty tannic, but very rich, offering waves of cherry, blackberry, blueberry, cocoa and sweet cedar flavors. Absolutely delicious, wonderfully elegant, and should age well for a decade.  — S.H.  (12/1/2010)

Chimney Rock 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon (Stags Leap District)

  1. $49
Seductively sweet, with ripe currant and cherry fruit framed by fancy oak, yet the underlying tannins kick in midway. Nowhere near its maximum integration; best left alone through 2008 to develop nuance.  — S.H.  (10/1/2004)

Chimney Rock 2001 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Stags Leap District)

  1. $107
A great Cab showcasing everything good about Napa’s fabulous ’01 Cabs. It’s rich, vibrant and complex, with layers of cassis, cocoa and roasted coffee flavors, and a deft touch of smoky oak. The tannins are sweet, ripe and subtle. Doesn’t clobber you sideways with fruit, but offers elegant, sophisticated drinking.  — S.H.  (7/1/2005)

Chimney Rock 2002 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Stags Leap District)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $100
Expensive, yes, but this is a wine of very high quality. The Cabernet Sauvignon shines through, showing enormous black currant flavor, and then there are the wonderfully ripe, smooth tannins that make the wine glide like velvet. It seems to be best now, but should hold for some years.  — S.H.  (12/1/2005)
